Karen Lee (Heinlein) Henson
Nov 17,1939---Mar 04,2017
Karen Lee (Heinlein) Henson, 77, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away March 4, 2017 at Sunrise Senior Living, Leawood, Kansas. A memorial service will be held at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave., Overland Park, Kansas, 11:00 am, Friday March 17, 2017, with visitation 10-11 am, prior to service.

Karen was born November 17, 1939 in Kansas City, Missouri to General Lawrence and Carol Heinlein. A proud Army brat, Karen lived throughout the world and particularly enjoyed attending school at Heidelburg High School in Germany while her father was serving overseas.

She completed her high school education at Jefferson City High School, then attended Lindenwood University where she met her future husband, Jim Henson. They later married in 1959.

Karen was a stay at home mother, raising her two young boys; then later worked as a teacher’s aide for the Shawnee Mission School District for several years before retiring.

She loved to travel,  including the Caribbean Islands on cruises and visiting other  foreign countries including New Zealand, Australia, England, Canada and both Central and South America.

She loved antique shopping and going to craft shows with her daughter-in-law and loved decorating the house and celebrating all of the holidays. One of her most favorite tricks was to light a black snake on the neighbor’s front step on the Fourth of July.

Karen was preceded in death by her parents and sister Shirley Urquhart. She is survived by her husband Jim Henson, children Mike Henson, his wife Faye and their son Mikey Henson and Jeff Henson, his wife Barb and their son Kyle Henson, nieces Debbie Schepper and Janette Smith and nephews Joe Urquhart and Bob Robinson, and many great nieces and great nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Mercy Hospital.
