David Paul Johnson, 72, of Lenexa, Kansas, died Friday, March 3, 2017. He was born January 24, 1945, in Buffalo New York, to Paul and Margeurite Johnson. David received his Masters Degree at Buffalo State University. He began his career as a teacher, and then moved into medical equipment sales. This allowed him to travel and to see the world. In 1967 he married Susan Purdy, of Williamsville, New York.
In 2005 David and Susan bought a small resort, The Cottages at Fair Haven Cove, in Cape Fair, Missouri, on Table Rock Lake. Their mission was to welcome every guest, and invite them to be 'on vacation', and to enjoy the sun, and the lake, and the pool, and the fishing. Many visitors became friends.
Susan preceded David in death in 2014. After that, he turned the resort into living quarters for those in the community in need. Often times, sharing his own home, if necessary. In 2016 David married his long time friend, Nancy Lyons, of Overland Park, Ks. He sold his resort, and they moved to Lenexa.
David has many friends around the world who are mourning his death. He is survived by his wife, Nancy. Brothers Bill (Lynne) and Don (Geri) in New York, and many nieces and nephews. Sons Tim (Joni), Chris (Carrie), David (Connie), and his 'adopted' daughter, Betsy (Tim) Bevilacqua. Also his 'bonus' children Claire Campbell (PJ), and PJ Lyons (Tiffany). His 10 precious grandchildren, and a soon to be great grandchild. He also has 9 'bonus' grandchildren.
A Mass of The Burial of the Dead will be at 2:00, Friday, March 17, at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church. 12251 Antioch Rd. Overland Park, Ks.
