Lynn Carolyn Kellen
Sep 19, 1942 - Apr 03, 2017

Lynn Carolyn Kellen, 75, of Prairie Village, KS, passed away April 3, 2017 in her home after a courageous 2 year battle with cancer. Her wife and son Steve were by her side. A memorial service will be held at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 6401 Wornall Terrace, Kansas City, Missouri, 3:30 pm, Saturday April 22, 2017.

Lynn was born on September 19, 1942 in Urbandale, Iowa to Richard and Mildred Jones and attended Urbandale High School. After high school graduation in 1960, Lynn married Harold “Bud” Boomershine. They were married 12 years until she was widowed with five children.

After attending nursing school at the University of Iowa, she became an accomplished pharmaceutical rep. with Smith Kline Beecham then became a pediatric nurse practitioner leading to a career  selling  medical  devices  and then surgical microscopes where she ranked at or near the top of sales production.  Her microscope invention was beneficial in saving countless lives to this day.

Lynn met spouse Janet Smith from Prairie Village, KS in 2005. They were married on September 25, at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Kansas City. It was a ground breaking first same-sex wedding at that church where they became solid contributors  in the congregation. She served on the Altar Guild, the Parish Life committee and later was in charge of shopping and helping set up the St. Paul’s pantry once a month.

Lynn was a rare and fascinating combination of intelligence and beauty. A striking blonde with a ready smile, always there with a witty, outspoken comment.  She would give anyone her forthright opinion, and also be there with a hug if needed. A faithful woman who loved her church, wife, family  and  friends, never asking for anything in return. In fact, not wanting the attention and the last to complain in illness. Always concerned for others more than herself. Also a champion of animal rights, and devoted to her pets Barkley and CoCo.  She was an active, vibrant woman who enjoyed boating, golfing, cooking, reading and traveling. Her favorite place was Paris.  Her kindness and strength in the face of adversity are inspirational. The void she leaves is as deep as her caring heart to all that knew her.

Lynn was  preceded  in death by her parents, Mildred and Richard Jones, her late husband Harold Boomershine, and her ex-husband Mike Kellen. She is survived by her wife Janet Smith and her five children: Stacy Kellen Teasdale and  husband Craig, and their three daughters Melissa, Stephanie and Cassy Adams and her husband Jared, and their daughter Sierra, Rich Kellen and wife Kerrie, and their two children Scott Kellen and his wife Sennin and Jenn Kellen Davis and husband Johnny, Steve Kellen and wife Amy, and their two children KC and Evan, Kennon Kellen and wife Alex and their two children  Carsten and Jesse, Tod Kellen his two sons Sean and Jason, two step daughters  Denise and Carmen Kellen Jennings and her husband Joe.

Lynn and family appreciate the home hospice help from Kansas City hospice. The family suggests a memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
