Barbara Lee Silber, 82, died quietly on April 15th at 1pm with her son-in-law by her side.

Barbara can best be described as an amazingly colorful personality. She spent the bulk of her life as a nurse caring for patients in every hospital department from the ER and cardiac care to pediatrics and psych. She loved her work and was a trailblazer for human and civil liberties long before it was fashionable. Barbara worked all-nighters during the Augusta riots of the seventies and was an administrator for the lone Planned Parenthood clinic in West Texas in the eighties.

Barbara lived most of her life in South Florida but moved to Overland Park to be close to her family. Her surviving family includes her daughters, Laura Bratt and Val Lefkowitz; son-in-law, Dr. Avery Bratt and Val's partner, Michelle Ashley and grandchildren, Ashur, Hanah and Aleck Bratt. She was loved and her energy will be missed by family as well as staff (thank you Pam & company!) at Garden Terrace Nursing Home.
