Obituaries detail

Scott Lee Harman
Oct 05,1951---May 11,2017

SCOTT LEE HARMAN, 65, greatest of all fathers, most magnificent, escaped the perpetual misspelling of his last name Thursday, May 11, 2017, surrounded by his family. And Mickey. Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Friday, May 12, 2017, at Curé of Ars Catholic Church, 9401 Mission Road, Leawood, KS 66206. Funeral services are the last thing he needs, and will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at the church. Cremation.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife of 42 years, Carin, of the home; five children, Laura (Matt) Higgs, Ann (Mark) Scheer, Steve Harman (Kacie Otto), Julie (Travis) Russell and Joe Harman; three grandchildren, Emma Lee, Ethan Henry and Honora Grace; four siblings, Audre Hunn, Ethel Akins, Grace Nugent, and Steve (Marge) Harman; the Pine Street crew; and hundreds of friends, family, scouts and coworkers around the world. And Mickey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nellie Harman Souder and Phillip Harman, and one brother, Jim Harman.

Scott’s greatest loves were his 40-year career at Black & Veatch as a mechanical engineer, reading his latest thrift store book (especially when it came with $20 tucked inside), scouting, bad puns and, above all, his family. He was especially proud of his grandkids, who will be forever protected by his patented monster repellers. He was a punny guy, always ready to deliver awful one liners – the louder the groan, the better. Dad’s sense of adventure led him to new foods, new places and new friends. He loved to share his infinite knowledge of words, trivia and information that was useless except when beating us at Trivial Pursuit and Boggle.

In honor of Bop Bop’s love of reading and learning, please consider a donation to the Curé of Ars Catholic School library to foster the same passion for reading in children.

Dave Campbell May 11 ,2017

Friend ,Kansas

Scott will be sorely missed as we have lost a true friend who was always happy and serving others. The B&V family all sends condolences. Steve Edwards told me today that he never saw Scott having a bad day. I know this was because of Scott's deep love for his family and his belief in the good in everyone, which showed in his loyalty to his friends and his kindness to all. It was a blessing to be in Scott's life.

I always enjoyed sharing Scott's gentleness, subtle use of words and his mischievousness, especially watching the playfulness between he and Dave and our exchanged emails. I extend my sympathy and will keep Carin and the family in my thoughts and prayers for strength and peace as you go through this difficult time. Warm regards, Suzy Campbell

Friend ,Lilburn, ,Georgia

It is not often that in-laws become great friends but in Scott's case came an exception. My son married his daughter and from then on a great friendship was begun. An absolutely great man taken to soon from this earth but I am confident that the Lord was either having a problem with a Corvette or a Power Plant and need him. He will be missed but never forgotten. God Speed Scott

All I can think of at this time is what an incredible gift you all are to each other with the special, close family you have. While my heart aches for all of you it is also full of joy knowing you shared so many great times and memories and jokes, especially leading up to this time. I hope you can feel all the love and support around you now and always. <3

The obituary was a perfect summary of Scott's life! Scott was greatly admired at Black & Veatch for his technical expertise. However, more importantly, he was great fun to have around. We will miss him!

My heart-felt condolences to the family and friends of one of my favorite co-workers at Black & Veatch. I met Scoot late in my career and found someone with a sense of humor. I will miss his humor.
