Dale Fellin
Jan 21,1967---May 15,2017

Dale Fellin, age 50, Kansas City, MO, passed away May 15, 2017 after a long battle with cancer.  He was born on January 21, 1967 in Madill, OK to Caroline McCasland.  Dale was raised in Springfield, MO by Caroline and John Fellin and graduated high school from Kickapoo High School in Springfield.

He began his career in movement at the age of 14 in the world of gymnastics.  By the age of 19, he was both coaching and judging women’s competitive gymnastics.  From the world of gymnastics, Dale ventured into dance and in 1991 he received his B.F.A. in Dance from Missouri State University.  Dale has performed with The Springfield Ballet as well as Springfield Little Theatre in many productions.  He studied at Hubbard Street Dance, the Joel Hall Dancers and the Chi-Town Jazz Dancers, all in Chicago.  He performed with The Jimmy Rogers Theater in Branson before moving to the well-known Shoji Tabuchi Theater, where he spent seven years as Dance Director. In addition, he performed with Central Dance Theater of Omaha.  In January 2004, Dale joined City in Motion Dance Theater in Kansas City, MO and then became one of their Co-Artistic Directors until he retired from dance in 2015 due to his cancer diagnosis.

While his love and passion for dance never truly faded, Dale found a second passion in health care.  He graduated from Park University with his Associate of Nursing Degree in 2010.  He then began a new career in Psychiatric Medicine at Research Psychiatric Center.  After completing his B.S.N. at the University of Missouri Kansas City, he moved to Signature Psychiatric Hospital where he eventually assumed the role of Human Resources.  Throughout his years of dance and nursing, Dale developed many close friendships with the people he was surrounded by.  They were his second family.

Dale is survived by the love of his life, his partner, Christopher Johnson; his father, John Fellin; his sister and brother in-law, Christy and Jason Firestone; his brother and sister in-law, John Paul and Kelly Fellin; and his nephews and niece, Jake and Gracie Firestone and Jaxon and Mason Fellin.

Lol, he didn't mind speaking his mind and that's why I got along with him, because we were both mouthy. Dale would say hey beautiful and I would respo5hey handsome. He was handsome, fun and an wonderful person to know. God bless his soul and will pray for his family.

Dale was such a nice guy. I was s classmate at Kickapoo and when I moved to KC last year, he advised me on neighborhoods, etc. Prayers to his partner Christopher and the rest of his family. Much too young!!

From the moment I met Dale, he was an extraordinary person. His passion for dance and the arts was so strong that at age 18 when his parents and I asked if there was anything else in life that he could do to make him happy, he didn't even hesitate -"no, I want to dance." He was a joy in class, to choreograph for and in main stage productions. I had the pleasure of watching Dale grow and become the man that he wanted to be. He shared his artistry with so many people. Christopher, my heart goes out to you and Dale's family. He will be remembered in so many hearts and conversations. I am glad that he is free of pain and suffering and dancing with the angels. All my love !!

I am so terribly sorry to hear about Dale's battle with cancer and of this devastating loss. I was a Freshman, he was I Senior at SMSU. My first stage-management job was a dance concert in which he was showcased. I was a "newbie"and he was wicked smart, funny, talented, and kind. I send all my best to the family.

I am deeply, deeply saddened to hear about Dale's death. He was one of my best friends in high school. One of the few people who "got" me. I loved him so and we had so many great laughs together! I was so happy to reconnect with him on FB and was thrilled to see him following his dreams in dance, performing, and nursing. My prayers and deepest condolences to Dale's family and friends. He is dancing in Heaven!
