John is survived by his devoted ex-wife Karron Keyes, who lovingly cared for him alongside his daughter Barbara Muldoon throughout his battle with Alzheimer's disease; step-children Shelley Armstrong(James); Brian Macheers; daughters Barbara Muldoon (Leo), Kathy Bednar (Frank); Carolyn Baraban (Bruce); grandchildren Jesse, Jordan, Alexa, Jade, Rose, John, Michael, Alex, Jessica (Trevor), Lauren.

A firm believer in self-sufficiency, John taught his daughters how to mow a lawn, paint a house, and change the oil in a car. A nature lover at heart, he would feed the squirrels, deer, and birds in his backyard and, when his daughters were young, take them on nature walks in the woods, identifying the trees and shrubs along the way. He was also a proud Army veteran.

Private family services will be held at a later date.
