Douglas M. "Ziggy" Stewart
Jun 07, 1959 - Oct 03, 2017

Douglas Matthew Stewart, 58, of Overland Park, KS, died October 3, 2017, following a long struggle with cancer.  Memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, October 13, 2017 at St. Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church, 12251 Antioch Rd., Overland Park, KS.

Doug was born to Jack and Rosemary (Hill) Stewart June 7, 1959 in Joplin, MO. The family moved to Overland Park, KS, in 1961 where Doug would attend John Diemer Elementary and Nall Hills Middle Schools. He graduated from Shawnee Mission South H.S. and the University of Kansas.

After family, music was everything to Doug; he enjoyed most genres except disco, modern CW and some opera. He could tell you who played what instruments with a particular artist on an album or in a band during what years.  Jazz, blues, funk, Beethoven, rock …it all spoke to him. He played keyboards, guitar and had planned to learn to play trombone.

Doug loved family trips across the United States, Europe, and Mexico, later developing a special affinity for the city of New Orleans. Doug was an Eagle Scout, an artist, crossword puzzle ace, comic book/art collector, film buff, foodie, baseball fan…so many interests, gathering large groups of friends in each. And overall, the things most will remember of him will be that he was a gentleman who always had a smile or a joke for you, and the most infectious laugh you ever heard.

Doug is survived by his beloved bride Cynthia Woods-Stewart, his sister Anne Thompson (Dave), five nieces and a nephew.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to your local animal shelter or public radio station.
