Classmates, With more than a little sorrow I pass on to you news about our classmate Larry Seckington. Larry graduated to a different level of being last Saturday. He had struggled with illness much recently in his home in Kansas City; hospice care had been provided in his home. Today I think of all the leadership I witnessed in Larry as a fellow student. I marveled at his grasp of history and literature I did not. Larry made athletic activity appear easy whereas some of the rest of us could not; speed and agility were natural for him as he encouraged all of his teammates to be more competitive. Forever I will recall his professional skills as an attorney. If I drew on his knowledge of the law sometimes in a social setting or in his office, I went away pleased with the information he gave me. This last summer I wrote to Larry about his youthful experiences as a Creston baseball player, the Pee Wee and Midget successes in the 1950’s. This is part of his last email, “I remember Kirk Herbert, Dean Conley, Larry Jaundry, Mike Petersohn, Brady Miller, Mike Bretnall, Carl Overholster, Jim Monahan, Bob Embree & myself. Can't remember the rest. Won the state pee wee championship one year. Believe it was played in Walnut, Iowa.” Gone now is the opportunity to chat some more with other ‘champions’, Kirk, Brady, Carl, Jim, and Bob. And Larry. Best we all not wait for another class reunion to communicate with a classmate we respected and loved. RIP Larry. Ron Dunphy
