Ronald (Ron) Dean McCreight
Jan 29, 1935 - Oct 27, 2017

Ronald (Ron) Dean McCreight died Friday, October 27, 2017. He was born January 29, 1935 in Clarinda, Iowa. He Graduated from Westport high school in Kansas City in 1953 and entered the U.S. Marine Corps spending three years on active duty during the Korean conflict. Ron attended the Kansas City Junior College, Johnson County Community College and the college of common and uncommon sense. Respect your elders and all armed forces personnel; admire all females, although they may be difficult to understand, all are beautiful in their special ways. Among his perhaps strange and redundant philosophies, he always thought that 50% of all people, regardless of their professions, graduated in the lower half of their class; try not to ever look back, there may be something following you; buy low, sell high; always have your gun loaded, but never have a live shell in the chamber; arrive for an appointment fifteen minutes early and never overstay your visit; I’ve been married 57 years, and all were wonderful.

Ron was a pioneer in the computer field starting as a computer operator for Westinghouse Electric Jet Engine division using an Underwood Elecom 120 computer, one of only two ever made. After being laid off when Westinghouse lost their Navy contract, Ron joined IBM and spent the next forty years “practicing” computer stuff working as an analyst, programmer, operator, salesman, manager and founder of Computer Resources Inc., a firm that attempted to be all things to every firm, person or object that needed a computer resource. Their motto was: “Have computer, will travel”

Ron married his beautiful wife Charlene (nee Steinkuehler) in 1960. He is survived by Charlene, sons Bretton Dean, John Nelson and his wife Karen, daughter Dyan Elise and husband James Sharp, granddaughters Nicole and husband, Derek Miller, Taylor and Alexandra Sharp, grandsons Jackson and Reed McCreight and three great grandsons, Brandon Sharp, Maxwell and Connor Miller.

Ron was preceded in death by his father and mother, Paul Nelson and Fae Irene Stoops McCreight Underhill Henry, his brothers Danny, who died at 3 days old, and Paul Nelson Jr.

Ron had an entrepreneurial spirit, was an avid golfer and wanted to make someone laugh every day. Ron was truly one of a kind.

Memorial service will be held at the Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Ave., Overland Park KS on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Dr. Ted Pierce officiating.
