George Haydon Beaumont

George Haydon Beaumont died June 1, 2018. George was born July 3, 1930 to Taney Justice Beaumont and Helen Haydon Beaumont in Kansas City, MO.  When he was 3 his parents died and he moved to St. Joseph, Mo. where he was raised by his grandmother, Anna Beaumont, and his uncle, John Beaumont. He is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Haydon Beaumont; his father, Taney J. Beaumont Jr.; his brother, Taney J. Beaumont III; and sister, Eugenia (GeeGee) Stokes.

 

George attended school in St. Joseph, MO graduating from Central High School and St. Joseph Junior College, where he played basketball and football. He was City Tennis Champion in the Boys and Junior Division during the ‘40s. George graduated from the University of Missouri, Columbia in 1952 and entered the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. In 1953 he married Carolea Sawyers and they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on March 7th, 2018.

 

George’s business career included working for Johnson’s Wax, Interpublic Advertising Agencies, Hallmark Cards, Rexall Drug Co. -- where he started as Director of Advertising and became Executive Vice President. When Rexall was sold, he joined the Majers Research Corp in Omaha, NE. He then became Senior Vice President of NDL in Denver. He retired in 1993 and moved back to Overland Park, KS. In 2003, he went back to work and became Executive Vice President of Vital Learning Corp. in Omaha, NE, and was COO from August of 2008 until the company was sold in March of 2012.

 

George is survived by his wife, Carolea Beaumont; daughter, Jill Rocksund (Dan Yuhas), grandsons, Gunnar Rocksund and Tait Rocksund (Rachel), and great-granddaughter, Liv, of Columbia Falls, MT; Marsee Goldstein (Bob), grandchildren, Brandon Goldstein (fiancé Monika Imsirovic) and Shaina Renfro (Nicole), of St. Louis, MO; daughter, Julie Carey (Joe), and grandson, Tommy, of New York, NY; niece, Jan Stokes Elias (David) of Houston, TX; nephew, Jeff Stokes (Linda) of Las Vegas, NV; nephew, Taney Beaumont (Rosemary) of NY; John Beaumont (Patty) of Albany, NY; nephew, Richard Beaumont (Melody) of NY; and sister-in-law, Marcha Pipes, and her family; and the family of his late sister-in-law, Clarece Smith, of Overland Park.

 

George was a Mason, a life-long member of the Charity Lodge and Molia Temple of St. Joseph, MO. He loved public speaking and was active in a number of Toastmasters Clubs over the years. He helped organize and start 3 Homes Associations, and was actively involved in the communities where he lived. He was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church and served on the Stewardship Committees of 4 different churches, starting with the First Christian Church in St. Joseph, MO. He loved his family, was proud of his wife, Carolea, his daughters and their families, and his church.

 

Memorial Services will be held at Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS 66208, at 1pm on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, followed by a reception in the church.
