Shirley Brillhart Durbin
Feb 15, 1940 - Jul 12, 2018

Shirley Brillhart Durbin, 78 years young,  made her transition peacefully on July 12, 2018 after a lengthy and courageous battle with Ovarian cancer.

Shirley was born February 15, 1940 in Fort Scott, Kansas, to Curtis and Betty Brillhart. Shirley graduated from Fulton High School and shortly thereafter became an active wife and mother. Shirley spent her life working with the public. She was a long-distance operator for Southwestern Bell and later was able to exhibit her creative and managerial skills as a District Sales Manager for Avon. She loved helping women to become make-up artists and also teach women how to become entrepreneurs. At age 50, she found her calling - to help people achieve healthy skin care. She returned to school and became a licensed esthetician. She owned and operated private practices in Kansas City, Las Vegas and Indian Wells, CA.

Shirley will be missed by so many. There were no strangers in Shirley’s world and anyone that met her instantly became her friend. The best thing to remember is that she is free of pain and fear. She is having the time of her life reconnecting with family and friends that have gone before her.

Shirley is survived by her loving children Victoria Durbin (KCMO) and Matthew Durbin (Hutchinson, KS); two grandchildren, the joys of her life, Kennedy Durbin (Wichita, KS) and Tyler Durbin (DeQuincy, LA); sister Nancy (Carl) Budde (Newton, KS) and Uncle Bill Carter (KCMO).

Shirley is preceded in death by her parents; first husband Larry Durbin; second husband and love of her life Al Porte and her beloved grandson, Curtis Joseph Durbin.

A Celebration of Shirley's life will be on August 11, 2018 - 12pm to 4pm - Shoal Creek Community Church located at 6816 N Church Road - Pleasant Valley, MO 64068.

The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at University of Kansas Cancer Center North KC, NKC Hospice and Palliative Care and friends for the loving care that mother has received. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to NorthCare Hospice House.

I was blessed to have known Shirley even though it was just for a year. Very sweet lady and I will miss her. Every year when I walk at the Ovarian Cancer Walk, I will walk in her honor along with my own mother and her friend.

I met Shirley through my sister, and am so honored to have known her. Such a beautiful lady, inside and out. I admired her outlook and how she cared about others, even in the midst of her own illness. RIP, sweet woman.

Shirley & I met as young mom's in the neighborhood where we had each bought our first home. Our kids played together and we were great pals from the start. She was a lovely steadfast friend. I remember so many good times with Shirley. It was so good to have her back in the KC area. She had just been at my house for an open house while my daughter Melissa was in town. We had a great time & Shirley reconnected with some of the old neighbors. She is gone too soon. What a beautiful lady inside & out.

Deepest Sympathy to Victoria and all Shirley's many friends. Such a beautiful, vibrant, empowering woman who really knew how to be a friend. She reminded me that she was my first patient when I opened my chiropractic practice in Lee's Summit in 1983.I know she held on in her final days because she did not want to leave Victoria. They were definitely the Dynamic Duo who fiercely supported each other through many tough times. May she be dancing in heaven with all the loved ones she lost in recent years. Godspeed, Dear Friend.
