David Edwards Marshall

            David Edwards Marshall died August 30th, in the embrace of his family. He was born September 4th, 1942 to LJ and Grace Edwards Marshall and spent his early childhood in Kansas City, attending Border Star Elementary School and having rich memories of the Brookside area and all that 25 cents could buy in those days.

            In 1950 the family moved to Topeka, David had wonderful memories of growing up there, learning to drive and being a proud Topeka High School graduate. He went to Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, where both of his older brothers had graduated. At Westminster, David was recognized in "Who's Who Among American College Students", was a Member of Scabbard and Blade, and was a third generation member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. After graduation, he served as a captain in the US Army.

            David spent his career with Southwestern Bell and AT&T retiring as a Division Manager in 1998. After his retirement he worked in the non-profit sector, offering business solutions to non-profit agencies. He was involved with the American Stroke Foundation for many years and was a long time member of Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon. In 2014, at his 50th Westminster College reunion, David was honored with the Alumni Achievement Award for significant achievements in business and community.

            In 1972, he married the former Diane Boomer at the First Presbyterian Church in Topeka. He is survived by his wife of nearly 46 years, Diane, and his children Elizabeth (Betsy) Roadman, her husband Eric, of Lee's Summit and their children Andrew Neil, John David, and Grace Catherine. He is also survived by his daughter Catherine (Katie) Betts and her husband Andy of Overland Park, and their son Andrew David, as well as twin grandchildren on their way. He is survived by his son John David Marshall of Prairie Village. He also leaves his brother Richard and his wife Patti of Oklahoma City, his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Bill and Lynda Boomer of Macomb Illinois and his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Cathy and Gary Stevens of Melbourne, Florida and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and countless good friends.

            A celebration of David's life will be Saturday, September 8th, at 11:00 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church, 9300 Nall Avenue. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church.
