Rev. Paul Edward Schreiber, Lt. Col. Ret.
Dec 21, 1930 - Sep 18, 2018

Rev. Paul Edward Schreiber, Lt. Col. Ret., passed away on Sept. 18, 2018. He was born Dec. 22, 1930, in Hanover, Indiana. The son of a farmer, he went on to live a life of service dedicated to God and Country.

He married Phyllis Joan Shipley on March 30, 1954. They spent 64 years together working as partners to raise their 5 children and minister to all those around them.

He served in the U. S. Air Force as an air traffic controller and then was called into the ministry. He received his master’s of divinity from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He began his ministry service when he was ordained as an American Baptist Minister at Burney Baptist Church in Burney, Ind.

He went into the U. S. Army as a chaplain and received a Bronze Star Medal for his actions in Vietnam. He went on to earn his masters of pastoral care and counseling from Butler University. During his time in the Army he served as Engineer Brigade Chaplain, Signal Battalion Chaplain, Division Support Chaplain, Director of Pastoral Care, Artillery Staff Chaplain, and Deputy Post Chaplain. He retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel.

After retiring from the military, he earned his Doctorate of Ministry from St. Paul’s School of Theology. He served as an interim minister for the American Baptists Churches of the Central Region for 20 years.

Paul could turn anything into a sermon. He would often exclaim “That’ll preach!” Whether ministering to his congregation or the store clerk, he always wanted to hear people’s stories, and he was always entertaining with silly expressions like, “Well, click my chocolate drops!”

He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Phyllis Schreiber, and his 5 children, Cheryl Buseman and her husband Randy, Douglas Schreiber and his wife Julie, Philip Schreiber and his wife Jenni, Ruth Milberger and her husband Jay, Lori Schreiber and her husband Bill Bowsher. Grandchildren Christen, Jennifer, Rebecca, Katherine, Michelle, Sarah, Brian, Jessica, Benjamin, Lucas, Catherin, Madyson, Niki, Patrick, Nicholas, Stephanie, Hana and Aubree. 19 great grandchildren and counting.
