Stewart Ray Morris, Stu to his many friends, of Overland Park, KS passed away on October 30, 2018. Funeral services will be held at Asbury United Methodist Church, 5400 West 75^th Street, Prairie Village, KS, where Stewart and his family worshiped for over 50 years, on Sunday November 4, 2018, at 2:00 P.M.

     Stewart was born in Independence, MO on April 26, 1932 to George and Edna (Schuster) Morris. His parents and devoted step-mother Inez preceded him in death. From an early age, family, friends, and farming were Stewart’s passions. After graduating from William Chrisman High School, Stewart joined the Air Force and was trained as an air traffic controller. He was stationed in Japan during the Korean War. After his discharge, Stewart was employed by the FAA, a position he kept for nearly 40 years.

     Stewart married Carolyn Anderson on July 28, 1962.  He was so proud to celebrate 56 years of marriage this last summer. They have two daughters, Lynette Morris of Levasy, MO and Sherrill Morris (Brian Brim) of DeKalb, IL. They also have two grandsons, Crispin Morris Brim of Broomfield, Colorado and Corin Morris Brim of DeKalb, IL. Stewart has two sisters, Norma Jean Redford (Branson, MO) and Maxine Detillier (Independence, MO). His younger brother, George W. Morris, preceded him in death. He has numerous nephews, nieces, cousins, and in-laws all over the country.

     Other than family and friends, the thing that brought Stewart the most joy was his family’s farm, Matthew’s Landing in Levasy, MO. Stewart worked the farm while in the FAA, buying additional acreage over the years. Upon his retirement in 1987, he farmed full time in the spring, summer, and fall. “Going to the farm” was always a special trip with Stewart. He often took nieces, nephews, and his grandsons on these visits playing and farming in equal measure.  In the winter, he traveled with his family and grandsons to visit friends and family all over the country.

     Stewart’s mind was always full of jokes and “stories” that he would dispense to everyone he met. Old friends from high school or new friends he just met always had their day brightened by his sense of humor. He will be greatly missed by those who had the good fortune to know him. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Stewart by giving someone who needs it a meal, or a coat, or just the gift of your time.
