Gerald “Jerry” C. Puppe

Gerald C. Puppe, was the son of Arthur and Bernice Puppe, born in Hensel, North Dakota where he attended Walsh County Agriculture School.  He played in the band, played football and was class President.

 

Jerry then went on to NDSU where he graduated with a BS Degree in Agriculture Education.  He was initiated into the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity in 1957 and served as Chaplain and Alumni Secretary of the Epsilon Chapter.  He was President of the Saddle and Sirloin Club and Gamma Delta at NDSU and was selected for Who's Who among students in American Colleges and Universities.  Gerald served as a delegate from North Dakota to Lebanon under the International Farm Youth Exchange program.  He then proudly served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army during the Cuban missile crisis.

  

Gerald married Marsha McNickle in 1966 and was proud to say he was married for 46 years till her passing in 2012.  They were happy to have one son, Steven and a daughter-in-law, Megan.  Jerry was proud to be a Grandpa to 3 grandchildren, Madison, Sydney and Spencer.

 

After teaching school for one year, he went to work with Federal Crop Insurance Corp, USDA.  He spent 29 years directing, designing and supervising federal crop insurance claims throughout the U.S. and worked with Senators and Congressmen.  In 1975 he earned his Master's Degree in Public Administration from Southern Illinois University.

 

After retiring from the Federal Government, he served as Vice President of National Crop Insurance Services for 11 years in Overland Park, Ks.

 

Gerald remained active in his fraternity throughout his working career.  He served as President of the Washington DC AGR alumni chapter as Vice President of the Central and Eastern regions of the fraternity. He was elected to the AGR Board of Directors in 1984, Executive Vice President 1986-1989 and Grand President 1989-1990.  He was proud to be chosen for the Epsilon Chapter Hall of Fame which is a 70,000 member organization.

 

In 2014 Jerry married Pam Spadanuta.  Although it was only a short four years, they were fortunate to travel extensively and were blessed to have each other.

 

In death he was preceded by his parents, Arthur and Bernice Puppe.  He leaves behind his wife Pam, son Steven (Megan), grandchildren, Madison, Sydney and Spencer, sister Alyce Waverly (Brian), and brothers, Harvey (Maureen), Russell (Debbie), and Dennis (Michelle), and sister-in-law Lonna White.  He also leaves behind many cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

 

Services will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 13300 Kenneth Rd., Leawood, Ks. 66209. Visitation, Tues., Nov. 6th, 6:30 to 8:00 pm, Memorial Service, Wed., Nov. 7th at 10:30 am. Committal service following at 2:30 pm, Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd., Leavenworth, Ks.

 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to: The Alpha Gamma Rho Educational Foundation (The Puppe Leadership Fund), The Gerald Puppe AFA Endowment Fund (NDSU Foundation and Alumni Assoc.), or Cancer Action, 10520 Barkley St., Overland Park, Ks  66212.

So sorry to hear of the death of Jerry. Played golf with him, Hank Bauer, and Ted Sheldon occasionally the last several years. We always had a great time in Desoto playing golf and then having lunch together there.
