John Spencer Brady
Sep 25, 1996 - Nov 01, 2018

We are heartbroken to say our son John Spencer Brady passed away on November 1st after unsuccessfully fighting the pain and feelings of hopelessness and helplessness brought on by clinical depression. Few people knew that for the last 14 years, John lived daily with clinical depression. While he was medically treated and professionally counseled throughout this time, the answers and medical cure eluded him. We are proud of how well John did in life and the accomplishments he achieved while battling these incredible obstacles every day. While we all get tired, unmotivated and discouraged from time to time, John lived daily with this as his baseline. We are especially grateful for our family, friends, John’s Cascone’s Restaurant work family (especially Jimmy and Desmond), St. Charles parish and school community, Rockhurst High School, Daniel Kirk and Boy Scout troop 180 for giving John joy in his short hard life.

John was a gentle, kind soul, who would help anyone. He was more loved and touched more lives than he ever knew. John loved his family and friends, his Cascone’s work family, the My Little Pony Brony community, and troop 180. After earning his Eagle, John continued to serve the troop as Advancement Chair, Merit Badge Counselor, and Patrol Advisor. John was happiest at Fripp Island, South Carolina beach where he vacationed with his cousins and extended family every summer. He will be greatly missed by all of his friends and family which include his Kansas City family Brent and Karen Bertram and of course our beloved dogs, Molly, Roxie and Jazzy. John loved the outdoors, wood work, history, insects, camping, Boy Scouts, building tank models, Legos, online computer games, and paintball. He took pride in his handyman skills and loved fixing anything. John felt great compassion for the poor, especially the homeless who he would occasionally pick up and drive to City Union Mission.

We ask in the name of John’s memory that you love and accept yourself with all your flaws with all your heart, you judge yourself by your own values and expectations and not what you think society or anyone else wants for you. Also, love each other and treasure every day of our most precious gift, life, because we never know what the next day, hour, or minute will bring. We request donations in lieu of flowers in John’s name to City Union Mission or Morning Glory Ministries.

While “there are no words,” we are thankful for all the prayers, love and support we have already been given by our friends, families, work families at Cascone’s, the City of Kansas City, Missouri, North Kansas City School District, St. Charles, Troop 180, the teachers, coaches, classmates and teammates at St. Pius X and University of Central Missouri. We will need you to continue to pray, cry, laugh, talk, and hug us and continue providing emotional support and prayers as we journey through this process. Please give your loved ones an extra hug today for John and for us.

John is survived by his parents, Jim and Jo Ann Brady, his brothers Joe and Chris Brady, his grandparents, Jim and Shirley Olson and Ed and Marge Brady, Brent and Karen Bertram, and numerous Aunts and Uncles Andrew and Lish Brady, Martin and Peggy Brady, Chris and Tina Brady, Margaret and Rob Arena, Joe Brady, Sharon and Charles North and numerous cousins.
