Theodora Ellison Norburg

Theodora Ellison Norburg, 95, died January 22, 2019 in Kansas City. She was born July 8, 1923, in Kansas City to Mae and Theodore Ellison. She went to Nelson Elementary, Southwest High, K.C. Junior College and Kansas State University, where she joined Chi Omega. Her stellar secretarial skills led to jobs with a U.S. congressman, a law firm founder and bank presidents. Theo retired in 1985 from the former University Bank in Brookside. She adored her growing family. She was an avid reader and news consumer with a prodigious memory. She was a proud social liberal, a loyal Swedish Lutheran, and, in retirement, an aficionado of a 3 p.m. gin martini. She was married for nearly 67 years to Royce Norburg, who died in April 2018. A son, David Norburg, died in 2009. She is survived by two brothers, Richard Ellison and William Ellison; daughter, Diane Stafford (Wilson); son Daniel Norburg (Mary Beth); daughter-in-law Ellen Norburg; grandchildren Ted Stafford (Michelle), Ben Stafford (Sara), Anne Tidrick (Peter), Erik Norburg, Matthew Norburg, Casey Christener (Donnie), and Molly Norburg; and great-grandchildren Joshua, Leighton, Brooke, Reed, James, Lucy, Caroline and Grace. Memorial service and reception will be at 10:30 a.m. Sat., Feb. 9, at First Lutheran Church, 6400 State Line Rd., where she was a lifelong member. Memorials are suggested to the church. The family thanks caregivers at Glenwood Village of Overland Park, St. Joseph Medical Center and Kansas City Hospice House.
