Roberta Lee Tipp

Roberta “Bobbi” Lee (Cort) Tipp, 72, died at home on April 17, 2019 in the loving arms of her daughter Ilona and husband Larry.  Bobbi successfully fought two different cancers, but succumbed to the effects of pulmonary fibrosis.

Bobbi loved attending classical music concerts (especially chamber music and opera) and live theater of all genres.  She learned early and continued to play the piano masterfully.

Bobbi ice-skated well into her 70’s, much to the dismay of her family and friends, but was twirling and spinning with the 12-year olds.  She practiced yoga for many years, loved walking, and kept very physically fit.

She was a docent at the Nerman Center and the Kansas City zoo for many years, and loved all aspects of our natural world.  A diminutive person at 5”4,’ she had no fear and wrapped 6-foot pythons around her neck without a second thought.

She was a long-time member of the Dahlia Society of KC and was an avid gardener.

She taught middle and high school English in public and private schools in Missouri and Kansas; she also taught English at Longview Community College. She was always intellectually curious and a lifelong learner.  She had an MA in Education from UMKC, and a BA in Speech also from UMKC.

Her fun-loving and generous spirit evoked devotion and adoration from most everyone who knew her.  Her faith in a higher power gave her great comfort throughout her life.

She is survived by her daughter Lisa Ilona Tipp, her husband Lawrence Tipp, and her two sisters Rebecca Magruder and Martha Carolyn Burfeind.  In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.  A private memorial service will be held for family.

Condolences

Friend and neighbor ,Springfield ,Missouri

BOBBIE was my best friend. When I moved to the Villas fifteen years ago we just automatically clicked. She was so easy to get to know and fun to be around. We had a lot in common, music, books, theater, all the arts. We loved going to the museums, trying out new restaurants. We would always get all dressed up in our favorite outfits and take on the town! She and Rosie were a fixture at my house. I can't explain how much I miss her. Since moving to Springfield, Mo. I would make a trip to OP about once every two months and we would continue our routine of going to restaurants, shows, our favorite places. Rest in peace, Bobbie, I miss you so much.

Larry and family, Dale and I are saddened for your loss. Bobbi loved to be active in many things physically, but culturally as well. She had a very close former neighbor and friend who was a resident at a memory care facility where my mom lived. I would see Bobbi visiting there a few times. My mom loved to see Bobbi. Bobbi, no more pain. I'm glad to have known you. Linda Niehus

I met bobbi through her husband Larry and other planet fitness friends! I loved her spirit and spark! She was truly a remarkable woman and very well rounded! She accepted everyone with loving arms and kindness. Turns out we did have some things in common! Like growing up in Raytown, same name and loving animals and nature! Plus she was a hundred times more flexible than me in yoga classes! My thoughts and prayers to Larry and family! RIP Bobbi see you on the other side Bobbi Wainscott

Long time friend ,OAK GROVE ,Missouri

Bobbi and I became friends in Junior High. There were 8 of us that ran around together during our Raytown years and into college. We continued our friendship forever. Of the 8, 7 of us continued to see one another over the years. Our little group of long time friendship loved getting together and sharing our lives. A lot of those times were at Bobbi's home. Bobbi was my children's aunt growing up. I had no sisters so she stepped in, spoiling them and making them laugh so hard they couldn't stand. The thing I remember the most about Bobbi is you could never ask how she was as she would always turn it around and ask about you or your family. She remembered everything and was always such a loving and giving person. I miss you my dear friend. You are free of pain and we will hug and reminisce again in the life to come. Big hug and Kisses to Larry, Ilona, Carolyn and Becky.

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. by Mary Elizabeth Frye Bobbie was of special comfort to me prior to my cancer surgery and I loved her spirit, kindness, and open friendship. I believe as the poem expresses, that her spirit lives and we can take comfort in that as she would wish us to do.

As a shy 6th grade girl, I never knew how much this beautiful lady would mean to my life. She was an amazing teacher. In 3 years with her, I only saw her angry one time, and it was an after story about another class....She was just life. Anytime you saw her in the hall, she looked like she was in a hurry, but she always took a moment to say hi. She always remembered a name. As life comes and goes, I can't say enough great things about how she change so many young lives, and obviously so many others. What a wonderful woman. She will be missed, dearly.

Bobbi was very special. Every time she walked in for class at Radiant Yoga I couldn't help but smile because she was always such a joy to be around. She was an inspiration to all of us and will be missed. Thinking of her loved ones during this time.

Radiant Yoga Apr 22, 2019

Yoga Studio ,Overland Park ,Kansas

Radiant Yoga We often hear from students how Radiant Yoga has changed their lives for the better. Today is a great day to remind our students how much they impact our lives as the teachers and owners of Radiant Yoga. YOU all are the reason we love what we do. Some of you may have heard we lost a beloved student, Bobbi Tipp, last night to complications from Pulmonary Fibrosis. Those of you who had the pleasure of meeting Bobbi were likely impressed by her sense of humor and her mad flexibility. Some of us teachers would say we wanted to be Bobbi when we grew up. She was a regular in Crystal and Laurie's Yoga Basics classes. Her loss will be felt for many days and months ahead. Please send love and healing out to Bobbi's family. Thank you to Crystal for this poem of peace in honor of Bobbi. Peace There is only silence on the mountain tops Among the tips of the trees You perceive barely a breath Even the birds in the forest Keep still and are silent Wait then Just a little while longer And you too Will find peace at last.

Bobbi was a vital part of our tight knit yoga community at Radiant Yoga. I had the pleasure of being one of Bobbi's first teachers at the studio and also worked privately with Bobbi and Ilona. Bobbi's spunky sense of humor and kind heart will be missed at Radiant. She touched a lot of people at Radiant and we are all better because of it. Peace and blessings to her lovely family.

Bob and Rebecca Fowler Apr 23, 2019

Friend ,Kansas City ,Missouri

Rebecca and I are both deeply saddened by Bobbi’s passing. We got to know both of them week over the past few years, and enjoyed very much socializing with them, going to dinners, theater events, and concerts. Bobbi was a lovely, caring, immensely talented person, and will be greatly missed by all who were privileged to call her a friend.

Bond and Shirley Faulwell Apr 23, 2019

Neighbor ,Overland Park ,Kansas

We were saddened to learn of Bobbi's death. For years we enjoyed talking about dogs and plants. Whenever she was walking Rosie and we were working our dogs they would gravitate toward Bobbi in the hope (usually achieved) of a dog treat. Bobbi and Bond went to high school together so they would often talk about people and memories from those days. Sorry she is gone but glad that she no longer has to suffer and can now be reunited with many who have gone before her.

So sorry for your loss Larry, Bobbi was such a nice bubbly person, even though I only knew her only two years she made you feel like a life time. It meant so much to me when you and Bobbi came to my Wife's funeral in January I am lucky to have friends like you and Bobbi.

Mary Langner May 16, 2019

Some of the precious memories were all the Christmas' we spent at her home singing Christmas carols. Especially what turned out to be there because of health of different ones, winter, busy schedules. Then that last Sunday we visited. We all prayed and Bobbi's prayer was thankful for her life, her friends, family.

So sorry to hear of the loss of Bobbi (Roberta). The Cort family were neighbors, her sister Becky and I were in school together. I later moved overseas - fortunately we have reconnected online and many memories were brought to mind, including the fact that Roberta was my piano teacher for a time. With such a list of interests and activities she participated in her lifetime, she most certainly touched many people's lives. May she rest in peace.
