He attended St. James Catholic School, Maple Park Middle School and Winnetonka High School. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps upon graduating from high school and was in the reserves. He attended classes at Park University, and he worked in the restaurant business all his adult life.

He loved to read and was interested in history (American and Roman), mob stories, Steven King, and on the lighter side, Calvin and Hobbs. His favorite movies included the Godfather saga, Good Fellows, Full Metal Jacket, and Star Wars.

He liked to run and participate in obstacle course events. The fourth of July was his favorite holiday, and he loved homemade biscotti cookies. When he was a kid, he like the WWF and we even went to one of those events here in KC.

He was never married, but loved three children, Tyler, Ashton and Grayson, and he was the best father figure he could be. He loved their company and watching them grow into very fine young people.

Regardless of the reasons why; he lived a hard life and his tattoo stating, “what does not kill you, makes you stronger,” is indeed true and perhaps he was the strongest of us all. He was loved and he will be missed.

He proceeded in death by his father Mitchell W. Hiles. He is survived by his mother Babette M. Hiles (Aines), his sister Maria Hiles, his nephew Les Paul Swartz (Hiles), Tyler, Ashton, Gracie and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles.

Services will be held at St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 6415 NE Antioch Road, in Gladstone MO, Monday, August 19, 2019. Visitation is from 8:30am to 9:50am. Mass begins at 10:00am followed by interment at White Chapel across the street from the church.

Michael, Where do I start? We met in 6th grade at Maple Park Middle School. We grew our friendship in our High School days at Winnetonka. We continued on to the Marine Corps. Where we served together! We have been through thick and thin as teens, young adults, brothers, Marines, roommates, and as adults. 31yrs is a long time. Too many inappropriate things and inside jokes that I will always cherish!! You were a smart guy who loved life. You loved your family, friends. A guy who, if he could would do anything for you. Always had a smile on your face. I’m so thankful and grateful for the times we shared! I will never forget you. The memories we made will stay with me forever! I’m sorry we lost touch the past cpl of yrs. But I’m very happy that we made peace just a couple months ago. Gone too soon! Rest easy Michael! Semper Fi Brother!!
