James Leroy McHenry, Age: 84
May 09,1935---Oct 30,2019

Jim McHenry, 84, Kansans City, Missouri, passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019.

Jim was born May 9, 1935 to Ruth Josephine and Harvey Leroy McHenry.  He attended Merriam Grade School, was a track star at Shawnee Mission High School and Baker University. His amazing positive attitude, independence, knowledge about everything mechanical, engaging smile, and devotion to his family and God were evident throughout his life.

On September 26, 1959, he married Dolores Jean Blew, and in 1965, welcomed their only son James Brian McHenry. Together with their family, they were blessed to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary just a few weeks ago.

Jim was a man with many skills and interests.  He began working at age 14, cleaning and repairing cars, working in service stations. His innate abilities enabled him to become outstanding in sales.  After 20 years in selling stapling and nailing equipment, he purchased a Snap-on Tool business in 1988. He successfully operated the business until he retired. During retirement, Jim rebuilt his prized 1941 Classic Ford pick-up from baskets and boxes of parts!

A trip to Colorado with the St. Luke’s youth group, introduced Jim to skiing. After that, the family enjoyed many skiing trips. Jim, Jean and Brian also spent weekends on family camping trips with Buster and Laurie (Jean’s parents). Jim was always eager to be at Table Rock Lake with many family and friends over the last 25 years.  In fact, Natalie had her first boat ride at one month old; Macie, Arlington and Maxwell had to wait until they were six months old because their birthdays did not coincide with summertime.

Jim used his green thumb and many other talents to care for St. Luke Church during his 50+ years as a member. He was extremely devoted to his family: always just a phone call away to handle any home or car emergency with patience and a solution.  Jim was a perfectionist!

He is survived by his wife, Jean; son, Brian and his wife Susie; two granddaughters, Natalie Ann (Jeremiah) Overly, Macie Ellen (Ryan) Murie; and two great grandsons, Arlington and Maxwell with another one on the way. Other survivors include Jim’s brothers, William McHenry, Darrel (Kathy) McHenry and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Memorial expressions of your respect for Jim may be sent to St. Luke Joy Church, 4301 N. E. Vivion Road, Kansas City, Mo. 64119.
