Irvin Shelby Rogers, 92, passed away peacefully in his daughter's home on December 31, 2019.
He was born on a farm March 6, 1927 in Burden, Kansas to Mary and Floyd Rogers. Moving from the farm to Wichita, Kansas at an early age, Irvin worked various jobs in town during the depression, at one time being a Newsie, selling newspapers right downtown. World War II broke out while Irvin was in high school. He quickly enlisted. Too young for the military he was discharged from the Army when they discovered he had lied about his age. Not to be deterred, he later joined the Merchant Marines where on two separate occasions the ship he was serving on was sunk by enemy torpedoes.
Irvin worked Sales most of his life, always the gentleman with a quick wit and a wonderful sense of humor. He is survived by his children, grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 noon Saturday, January 18 2020 at Lakeview Cemetery in Wichita, Kansas.
