Edward "Eddie" Hanson, Age: 82
Dec 31, 1937 - Oct 04, 2020

Edward (Eddie) Hanson passed away in the comfort of his home on October 4, 2020.  Eddie was born in North Platte, NE on December 31, 1937 to Edward and Mildred Hanson.

Eddie grew up in North Platte and following graduation from St. Pat’s High School (1956) joined the Navy and was stationed on Guam. Returning from the service he worked at Sixth Street Foods and then on the construction site of the Power Plant in Sutherland, NE. In 1978 he joined the Burlington Northern Railroad as an electrician working first in Lincoln, NE before moving to Kansas City, MO where he stayed until retirement in 2001. Once retired, Eddie studied with H & R Block and for the next five years worked as a seasonal tax preparer and also serving on the Executive Committee for the Burlington Northtown Credit Union.

Eddie was very proud of his children, always taking an active interest coaching little league and rarely missing a ballgame or swim meet. Travel was a big part of Eddie’s retirement whether it was visiting family/friends or sailing the Danube, he was always ready for the next trip.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Jan, and their children Tom (Jill) Hanson, San Diego, CA, Tavis Hanson (Steve Bruening) Kansas City, MO, Marcia (Leland) Lantz, Laguna Hills, CA; grandchildren Emilie and Jonathan Lantz and great grandson Thomas Waldron, Laguna Hills, CA; Siblings Sueann (David) Blaylock, Arvada, CO and Keith (Mary) Hanson, Ponca City, OK and many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins he held dear to his heart

I worked with Eddie for years at BNSF and a number of years on the Board of Director’s for the BNCCU (credit Union) in North Kansas City, MO. He was a hard worker and friend. He took his job on the Railroad very seriously. He volunteered many hours of his time for the Credit Union in order for it to succeed and flourish. He will be missed.
