Robert "Bob" Chaney
Jan 18, 1952 - Apr 03, 2021

Robert “Bob” Chaney passed away Saturday, April 3rd, at North Kansas City Hospice after a courageous fight with colon cancer. He was born in Munich, Germany on January 18, 1952 to Bill and Gloria Chaney. They returned to the U.S. in late 1952 and lived in various locations along the East coast that Bill was assigned to, as he served 20 years in the Air Force.

They settled in Charleston, S.C. in 1960. Bob attended elementary and high school there, graduating from R.B. Stall High School in 1970. He then attended and graduated from the Citadel in 1974. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force and served five years at Whiteman AFB, in Missouri.

He resigned from the Air Force and subsequently began his career at ARMCO Steel Inc. for five years. From there he continued on to KCPL, where he worked for 10 years. He eventually took a job with Harcros Chemicals, where he worked for 13 years before he retired in 2008.

Bob truly lived life to the fullest. He was an avid golfer, known to score a few holes in one! He loved traveling the world with his wife, Teresa, and spending many fun times with his cherished friends and his family. He was always ready for a great practical joke and will be remembered for his contagious laugh.

After retiring, Bob dedicated much of his time to helping the less fortunate. He devoted many hours to Habitat for Humanity, Fuller Center for Housing, Children’s Miracle Network, and a trip to El Salvador, in addition to numerous other projects assisting the elderly. He was always more than willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Gloria. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Monaghan, brother in-law, Dan Monaghan, brother and sister in-law, Mark and Mary Siebert, loving niece, Leah Siebert, and many loving cousins and friends.

A funeral mass will be held on April 14, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 1357 NE 42nd Terrace, Kansas City, MO 64116. Social distancing will be observed. There will also be a live stream video once services have begun that will be available on St. Patrick’s Home Page.

Until we meet again, Rest In Paradise

Feel privileged to have worked at same company as Bob and still remained friends for decades. There are a host of attributes fitting Bob Chaney, but his unselfishness was grand. That included his helping the less fortunate, giving of his time and the joy he gave us. Have wonderful memories and will treasure always. I was one of few employees that lived in the country. Bob was aware of how far from Kansas City my rural address placed me because he had spent time in the military at Whitman AFB. For one of my birthdays, he gave me a nice and big new mailbox. In his artistic flair, he wrote my address as “Hickinsville” MO on the side. He treated all “we chicks” at Armco with love and fun. His bright wit and humor never disappointed. Loved this guy because he was good to the bone. He was likewise brilliant. Cancer finally took him away but not without his amazing courage and suffering. Bless his family and wife, Theresa. He was such a gift to so many. Thank you, Bob Chaney for always making a difference. God is our refuge.

Robert was a wonderful and generous person and I am proud to have had him as a life-long friend. I will miss him.

Bob was a multi-year student of mine at RB Stall High School in North Charleston, where I got to know him well. After graduating, he maintained contact with me and we became close friends over the years. In recent years Robert made frequent trips to Charleston to visit us old friends, especially those from the Class of 1970.He has proven to be very kind, committed, and generous to others.
