DeWayne "Bernie" Steele, Age: 77

DeWayne "Bernie" Steele, age 77, passed away peacefully on September 18, 2021.  Bernie was born in Chicago, IL on December 15, 1943.  He was the son of Sophie Steele.  Bernie was preceded in death by his mother.  He is survived by his brother James Steele (Ellen), niece Stephanie Rapoza (Gary), nephews James F Steele, Jason Steele (Kelly), and Justin Steele (Danielle), great niece Kassidy Steele, ans great-nephews Jordan Steele, Jonah Steele, and Gary Rapoza. Bernie attended Bishop Hogan High School.  He served in the Army from August 1966 to May 1968.  He worked at the Kansas City Airport Police where he retired as sergeant after 27 years.  He passions were traveling, fishing and keno.  He loved his family and friends.  Bernie was generous and loyal like a St. Bernard.  

He will be interned at the cemetery of St Stanislaus church in Duncan, Nebraska. Graveside service prior to internment.

Jim. I’m sorry for the loss of your brother DeWayne. I’ve known Bernie since March 1970 and he was fun to be around. He kept us all on our toes at the airport. I will miss trading barbs with him at our monthly breakfast at the Corner Cafe. I’m sure he’ll be showing St Peter how to direct traffic while eating chili in the snack bar. My condolences.

DeWayne(Bernie) was a very good friend and co/worker I have known him for 44 years.He was my segeant and than I became segeant upon his retirement he left a big foot print and legacy.We will miss him at the retirement breakfast his humor and witt,My condolences to Jim Steele and his family and cousins
