Raymond M. Skotek, Age: 85
May 03, 1939 - Sep 24, 2024

Raymond Michael Skotek, 85, formerly of Coplay, PA, peacefully passed away on September 24, 2024 at Senior Star at Wexford Place in Kansas City, MO. He was raised in McAdoo, PA, and dedicated his life to serving his country, community, and family.

Raymond, or “Ray” as he was more affectionately known, enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, where he was respected for his dedication and service. Following his military service, he worked as a train dispatcher for the railroad. He knew his beloved wife, Patricia, since childhood, and they married in 1960. Together, they had three children and built a life in Rahway, NJ.

To say that Ray was committed to serving his community is an understatement. He was a devout member and leader of St. Thomas the Apostle in Rahway, NJ, and later, St. Peter’s in Coplay, PA. He was often found in the church kitchen and known for his pierogi making. Ray served as an emergency responder for the Red Cross, held the roles of president and treasurer for the AARP, and helped develop young leaders as a Jaycees member. He also volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and was an active member of the Rahway Elks. His list of volunteer service could go on and on. He touched many throughout his life of serving and was loved by all who knew him.

Despite all of his community service roles, Ray’s favorite role of all was playing “Papap” to his seven grandchildren. He was always ready for an adventure after his morning coffee and crossword puzzle, which he insisted on completing in pencil. He will forever be remembered as the one who would sneak oatmeal cookies from the cookie jar and help find treasure hidden in the banister. His grandchildren are the most fortunate to have had a “Papap” in their lives and he will be deeply missed.

Ray was predeceased by his wife, Patricia Skotek, mother, Helen Lazarus and brother, Tom Skotek. He is survived by his children, Raymond M. Skotek II, Robert M. Skotek, and Anastasia R. Condatore.

Additionally, he is survived by his brother, John Skotek, and sister, Charlotte Mastronardo. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Jacqueline, Nicole, Izabella, Julia, Katie, Kristopher and Zachary.
