Joe Still, Jr.
Jul 30, 1950 - Nov 20, 2024

Joe Still, Jr., beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend lost his 9 year battle with Alzheimer’s on November 20, 2024.  He was born July 30, 1950 in Marceline, MO to Joe Still and Naomi (Littrell) Still.  Joey graduated from Marceline High School in 1968.  He started work as a summer job on the Santa Fe Railroad in 2010 he retired from the BNSF having completed 42 years of service.

Joey was one of the kindest souls. He loved meeting new people and made friends wherever he went. He was the life of the party; always telling jokes and making people laugh.  Many of his friendships were lifelong.

Joey was very active physically riding his bike (often up to 50 miles at once); lifting weights, swimming and hiking.  He was the very happiest when he was hiking in the mountains. His wife, Trisha, and he visited one of the National Parks every fall to tackle the trails.  Being out in nature and seeing wildlife in their natural habitat was his favorite thing to do.

Joey loved to travel visiting Europe several times. The last few visits were to visit his sister Rosie who lived in Germany.

Joey was proud to be a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had celebrated 35 years clean & sober in August 2024.

Joey is survived by his wife Trisha, brother Stephen (Jean), sister Renee Westfall (Bill), brother Curtis (Donna) and dozens of nieces & nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Rosie Engles.

Joey’s absence leaves an immeasurable hole in Trisha’s heart and in that of his family & friends.

Selfless to the end, Joey made arrangements a number of years ago for his body to be donated to the University of Kansas willed body program.  There will be no memorial service.  Joey loved wildlife, and very much loved his fur baby cats.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to either Operation WildLife, or to Kitty City Rescue in his memory.

Very close friend of Trisha’s ,Kansas City ,Missouri

Those words paint such a beautiful picture of a well lived life. I know and love Trisha like a sister. My heart breaks for her. I didn’t know Joey, but I did know him through her. Joey was such a wonderful husband for my dear friend. She loved her handsome man more than anything. I do know they shared the coolest life together, with their outdoor adventures and love of animals. How lucky they both were to have each other. Trisha was by his side in every way possible, though his long battle with Alzheimer’s. She gave him the best care while at home, and toward the end she made sure he had the very best care. What a love story. I know he was loved by many and will be missed forever.

Joe was so friendly to everyone in our Leawood/Prairie Village meetings. He was always eager to lend a hand to anyone. He was so sincere in sharing his experience, strength, and hope. Blessings to you Trisha, and all your family.

Railroad Alumni..Fellowship of Spirit ,Overland Park ,Kansas

Joey is proof Dust to Dust is not spoken of our Spirit. We met in AA. He always said every time he spoke..AA both saved his life and gave him a life. We often sat together at meetings and talked Railroading that we spent on different Railroads. Job where we could drink and get paid same time. The Bell tolls for his family. Yet he's also proof energy cannot be created or destroyed. With Tons of Love and Respect.

Friend ,PRAIRIE VILLAGE ,Kansas

I met Joe about ten years ago when I switched AA Clubs (Leawood/Prairie Village is so much closer). Joe had already begun to fail. But he was still riding his bicycle long distances! As his shares became simpler, he would nonetheless always say: "I love this program." What great encouragement for the newcomers and a reminder for the rest of us of how our lives have changed, miraculously, marvelously. And Trish, when you joined him, to see the love in your eyes for him was special. Rest in peace, Joe, rest in peace. You will not be forgotten.

After reminiscing about Joe today I said to Joe's wife Trisha "They don't make them like that anymore." Truly a fine human being and friend. May he be at peace.
