Mark D. Cowan, 74, of Platte City, MO, passed away peacefully on May 26, 2025, at NorthCare Hospice House. Mark was born on January 28, 1951 in South Bend, Indiana, to George and Ruth (Switzer) Cowan. On February 12, 1972, Mark married Kathy (McDaniel) in South Bend, Indiana. Together they had three children: Jennifer, Brian and Steven.
Mark was a devoted Christian. His relationship with the Lord started at a very young age. As the years passed, his trust in the Lord and his faith was at the center of all he did.
In 1980, Mark moved his family to Kansas City, MO, for a job. Once the job ended, Mark was asked to move again, but he loved Kansas City so much that he decided to stay and raise his family there. For 25 years, he owned and operated Target Pest Control alongside Kathy. Mark eventually sold the business and retired in September of 2016.
Upon retiring, Mark lived out his dream and traveled with Kathy in their RV across the country. They really enjoyed wintering in Arizona for a few months. Mark was a car enthusiast and even finally bought a shiny, red Corvette. He was always very active in his church. Over the years, he served as a deacon, a board member and a leader of a small group ministry.
Above all, Mark loved his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Papa (as he was called) never missed an opportunity to watch them play sports, sing or play instruments. Laughing and playing with them brought him immeasurable joy. He was so ornery that he would be in trouble after getting them all riled up and had to be put in time out on occasion.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth Cowan; brother, Michael G. Cowan; and sister, Janet R. Cowan. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathy, of the home; daughter Jennifer Hill (Bill) of Hatfield, MO, two sons, Brian Cowan (Kelly) of Kansas City, MO, and Steven Cowan of California, his faithful four-legged friend, Dexter, and 8 grandchildren: Chase, Kadyn, Braydon, Aaliyah, Haley, Carley, Keaton and McKenna.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at Christ Chapel in Platte City, MO, from 2-4 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ Chapel or NorthCare Hospice House in Mark Cowan’s memory.

I am so sad to hear Mark didn’t make it through his fall. I was praying for him. I only have fond memories of working with you both. I know he will be greatly missed by all. I also know you will have some comfort knowing he is with the Lord. Prayers for all.
