Gordon A. Sears, Age: 88

Gordon Arthur Sears passed away on November 27, 2017 in Lee’s Summit Missouri. He was surrounded by his loving family who shared stories and played his favorite music as his breathing slowed and slowed and finally peacefully stopped. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ena Mae Sears (Stauts) and their youngest son, Ronald Allen Sears, and many other loved ones. Gordon leaves behind 4 children and their families along with son, Ronald’s daughter Taylor Sears of Georgia. He leaves his oldest son Paul Sears and wife Beth of Franklin, NC and their children: Meghan, Ian and Wesley and wife Jennifer. Also son Steven Sears and wife Mary of Kansas City and their children. Kevin and wife Lisa and their children Calvin and Emmeline of Leawood, KS. Keith and wife Ashley and daughters Allison and Kaitlyn of Latimer, IA. Daughter Maureen and significant other Clinton Stanton of Kansas City and daughter Marikate also of Kansas City. Gordon’s daughters Cyndi Sears and Vicki Sears and her daughters Afton and Zoey, all of Lee’s Summit, MO. Gordon also leaves behind his sister Mary Choate of Independence, Sister-in-laws Dolly King and Sue Stauts, and many loving niece and nephews. including Barb Prine and Sandy Isham Gordon was born September 25,1929 in Flint, Michigan to Arthur and Myrtle Sears (Dunlap). He had 2 older sisters, Mary Choate, Betty Anderson and younger sister Nancy Raviell. He graduated from High School in 1947 and waited before attending Graceland College in Lamoni, IA in 1950. After attending just one year Gordon made the decision to join the Air Force during the Korean War. He received various accommodations and earned the rank of Staff Sergeant. Stationed in Africa during the war, Gordon was chosen to work with nuclear weapons and learned many of the skills he would use later in his career in Aerospace Engineering. Gordon served his country from 1951 to 1955. On a break from the the Air force a boy from Michigan and a girl from California would meet at a wedding and fall in love. Gordon and Ena met at his sister Nancy’s wedding in Independence, and after a whirlwind romance they married soon after on December 27, 1954 in Los Angeles. CA. All 5 children were born there and soon after the Ron was born they relocated to Raytown Missouri to raise their “perfect” children. Gordon believed in furthering his education and always seemed to be taking courses. He achieved a BS in 1960 from the Los Angeles State of Applied Arts and Sciences, and also received certification at the DeVry Institute in kansas City in 1974. He worked nearly half his lie at Bendix/Allied Signal in Kansas City and upon retiring, he and Ena began to travel the world from Paris to Panama. Along with his family, career and world travels, Gordon’s church life was very important to him He served as an Elder in the Community of Christ church as a pastor and volunteer chaplain after retirement.Gordon had a beautiful baritone voice and sang in the South Crysler choir and also enjoyed many years singing with the SPEBSQSA Barbershop harmony society. He also had an amazing speaking voice that people often said sounded like it could he be voice of God. Gordon was truly admired by many people throughout his life and will be forever remembered as the best possible of men.
