Siegfried "Sig" Nicolaus Kuehn, Age: 89
Mar 15, 1929 - Mar 22, 2018

Siegfried Nicolaus Kuehn

Sig

March 15, 1929-March 22, 2018

I was an ordinary child, born in St. Joseph, MO, to extraordinary German immigrants, Joseph and Elise Kuehn.  My dad went to night school to learn English, and then he taught my mom English.  The proudest moment of their lives was receiving the oath of United States citizenship.

In early childhood, I began my lifelong passion for stamp collecting.  I always loved history and art and the stories that postage stamps tell.

My love for God’s creation began when I was a Boy Scout, and I continued to appreciate nature and camping as a Scouter with my son, grandsons, and other fine young men.

After high school, I graduated from the Kansas University School of Architecture.  I served in the U.S. Air Force 1952-1954 as an air police 1st Lieutenant.   My architectural career was in Kansas City, and I primarily designed churches, as well as some mental institutions.

I was always dedicated to sports, especially KU Jayhawks basketball and KC Royals baseball, and enjoyed spending time at St. Luke’s Cardiac Rehab the past 25 years. I was so grateful to the University of Kansas Health System for their healthcare, as I tried to care for the body God gave me, so I could be a servant for him.

Travel was also a very important part of my life, having visited all fifty state capitols and seventeen countries.

I was married to an amazing wife, Patricia, for 62 years, and had three fabulous children, Alison (Wally) Sperry, Gretchen (Don) Koller, and Nic Kuehn (Diane Hanke).  I had awesome grandchildren…Wyatt, Alex (Jared), Aleah, Jared, Nicole, Jakob, Jackson, Jenna, and Gibson and Tanner.

My faith community brought me many opportunities to serve others, and it was a source of strength and encouragement to me.

“I am thankful to God for the life I have lived, my wonderful family, friends and church.  My journey has not ended.  I have a meeting with Jesus and a reunion with my parents.”

Friend ,Ottertail ,Minnesota

We were so delighted to meet Sig and Patricia last summer during their visit with Gwen and Don at Ottertail Lake, Mn last summer. We shared our interests in mid-century modern designs and he complimented our color palette. Most of all we enjoyed his charisma, strength of faith and love for his family and friends, especially Pat. We will always remember and cherish our encounter with Sig and Pat. May he Rest In Peace.
