Floyd Allen Murphey

Floyd Allen Murphey, age 76, of Princeton, Kansas, passed away Monday, September 23, 2019.  He was born on September 15, 1943 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the son of Ralph and Mildred (Martin) Murphey.  Floyd attended school in Jasper, Missouri.

Floyd worked his entire career in road construction, starting with J.A. Tobin and continuing with numerous other companies.  Floyd was a dedicated cattle farmer and collector and builder of classic cars.

Floyd, also known as “Murph” to his family and friends, mostly enjoyed speaking his mind to anyone and everyone and giving all huge doses of comedic grief.  Floyd could easily be recognized to all for always being dressed in his beloved overalls. He might even put on his best pair for more formal events.

Floyd and his lifetime companion, Lavonne Franks, spent countless hours attending classic car shows; working their cattle and farm; and spending as much time as they could with family and friends.  Even though Floyd was constantly giving people grief, he would always make friends and could talk to anyone for hours on any topic.  Floyd never lacked for an opinion about anything and everything.  He had a ton of knowledge about numerous subjects and wasn't afraid to tell you how to do something, in fact he relished telling you how to do everything.

Floyd is preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Pat Murphey and Karen Delena; and his step-daughter, Tina Boise.

Floyd is survived by: his companion, Lavonne Franks, of the home; his sister, Reba Cooper and husband Frank of Harveyville, Kansas; his brother, Dale Murphey and wife Paula of Carthage, Missouri; his sons, Greg Murphey and wife Gale of Olathe, Kansas, and Jamie Murphey of

Mountain Home, Arkansas; step-daughter, Tabitha Stephens of Parker, Kansas and step-son,

Coogan Franks and wife Mandy of Richmond, Kansas; his grandchildren, Sarah and Kevin

Murphey; Justin and Kayla Murphey; Taylor, Tyler and Alisha Brown; Gage and Mason Boise; Courtney, Josh and Allison Franks; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren.
