Carrie “Lucille” Gannaway

Carrie “Lucille” Gannaway 71, passed away on Friday, September 20th, 2019 at St. Luke’s North.

 

Lucille was born June 4th, 1948 at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. to Verna Lucille (Carey) and Albert Wright.  

 

She met the love of her life, Tommy Carl Gannaway, on a double date in 1964. They began their life together and married on April 30th, 1965.  Tommy and Lucille were married 54 years.  

 

They welcomed three amazing children; Tammy Lucille Gannaway, on February 7th, 1966; John William Gannaway on June 26th, 1968 and Jeanne DeAnn Gannaway on August 2nd, 1971.

 

In addition to her work as a homemaker, Lucille, with the help of her loving husband, Tom, ran and operated a loving licensed home daycare. They touched countless lives. They truly thought of all of the children in their care as Family.  Parents never had to worry about their little ones because they knew their children were in loving hands.

 

Lucille is survived by her husband, Tommy Carl Gannaway, her brother, Jerry Wright and children Tammy Lucille Gannaway, Liberty, MO, John William Gannaway, husband of Milissa, Cameron, MO, Jeanne DeAnn Cummins, wife of Brock Cummins, Joplin, MO. As well as grandchildren Kyle Conner Krier, Carlie Denae’ Parks, Madison Nicole Gannaway, John William Gannaway, Luke Heath Cummins, Caleb Tommy Cummins, Nathan Ronald Cummins, Seth John Cummins, Aiden Clay Cummins, and Lillian Grace Cummins.

 

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, Verna “Wright” Harkness and Albert Wright, brother, Eugene Wright, and sister, Jessie Stevenson. Visitation will be at 10:00 am and memorial service at 11:00 am, Saturday, September 28 at Cornerstone Bible Church, 10336 NW Prairie View Rd., Kansas City, Missouri 64153.

My husband and I have lived across the street from Tom and Lucille for the last 14 years. They have been more like family than neighbors, she always made us feel welcomed, and she will be missed. You all are in my prayers, and I am so sorry for you loss.
