George Dennis Offutt
George Dennis Offutt, 92, Platte City, MO died Tuesday, January 24, 2020 at the Platte City Care Center. Born 22 July 1927 to George and Nina (nee Wells) Offutt, along with his twin brother, Doran. The family lived in Hampton (the property is now part of KCI), where Dennis began his education at the one-room Hampton school later attending Platte City High School – Class of 1945. He took classes at Park College studying business before moving to the General Motors BOP facility. In 1956 Dennis began a 31-year career at Prudential Insurance where he supported his many clients while earning numerous awards. He was continued an advocation of public service which began in the 1950s having served on various county commissions culminating in his election as Mayor of Platte City in 1988, serving one term. Dennis could be found working the Lion’s Club concession stand during the Platte County Fair most years as part of his dedication to the organization where he honored with Melvin Jones Fellowship Award. Following his interests, he led the mission to establish the Platte County Steam Engine Show in 1961 which continues to the present day. He was also a member of the Fidelity #339 AF & AM Masonic Lodge, Farley, MO.
George Dennis married Susan Elizabeth Ohrazda on 10 November 1951. They celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary recently. The couple have three children, Denise, Torrance, CA, Frank (Elizabeth) Offutt, Platte City, Mary Lou (Dr. Richard) Robinson, and two granddaughters, Elizabeth and Katherine, Tulsa, OK.
He was predeceased by his parents, George and Nina and his twin brother, Doren who died at the age of two in 1929. His wife, Susan died Friday, January 24.
A memorial service is planned for later this spring.
Interment at Hampton Cemetery will be a private ceremony.

Frank and family, I was extremely saddened to hear of the passing of your father, just after your mother passed. I can only imagine that he was heartbroken after 68 years of marriage. My deepest condolences to your family!
