Kiyoshi "Kay" A. Richards

Kiyoshi "Kay" A. Richards, 83, passed away peacefully Thursday June 4, 2020 at Brookdale Shawnee Assisted Living in Shawnee, KS.

 

 

Kiyoshi was born December 1, 1936 to Gunzo Atobe and Tama Takahashi in Shiogama, Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. She was the oldest of 6 siblings.

 

 

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband of 40 Years; Lee A Richards; Brother Koh-hiro, Sister Kimiko and beloved pet Betsy.

 

 

She is survived by her son John Lee Richards, daughter Emmy Richards Kiely and husband Garry, brother Takeshi, sister Kazuko. sister Miko and sister Toshiko.

 

 

Kiyoshi met her husband in Japan during the late 1950’s when he was a staff sergeant in the army stationed overseas.

 

 

Kiyoshi was a devoted mother, loved to spoil and was happiest taking care of someone. She was a hard worker and loved to garden, cook and sew. She was a talented artist and painted pictures on silk and made a traditional Japanese doll -a beautiful 3’ tall geisha. She revered all nature and was happy to just gaze at the scenery and take it in. She was a devout Buddhist and proud member of Nichiren Shoshu for many years.

 

 

Because of the current isolation there will be no service. Kiyoshi wished to be cremated and the family will have a small private service next year.
