Sandra “Sandy” Lea Barker, fondly known as “Mimi”, 81, of Liberty, MO, passed away June 5, 2020 at KU Medical Center.
Sandy was born in Kansas City, MO to Glen and Viola Pittser on September 19, 1938. She graduated from Central High School in Kansas City, MO and was self-employed as a court stenographer for over 50 years. She accepted Jesus as her Savior while attending Tabernacle Baptist Church as a young girl. Later she became a member of Sterling Acres Baptist Church. During her years of attending both churches she served in a variety of roles and capacities.
Sandy is survived by her three children, Jimmy Barker (Kelly Bradley), Debbie Vochatzer (Dave), and David Barker (Trish); four grandchildren whom she cherished, Allison and Justin Vochatzer and Matthew and Tyler Barker; brothers, Roger Pittser and Glen Pittser, Jr. (Sandy); and nieces and nephews, all of whom were very special to her. Sandy is preceded in death by her parents Glen and Viola Pittser; sister, Deloris Eylar; brother-in-law, Dr. Walt Eylar; and nephew, Curtis Eylar.
Sandy found the most joy in her family. Her kids and grandkids loved spending time with “Mimi” and have numerous memories that will forever remain with them. Some of their favorite memories were trips to Branson, making her famous chocolate milkshakes, enjoying the plaza lights at Christmas time, late night movies, puzzling, sharing a love for books and reading, her cheering them on at various extracurricular activities, and long conversations about life and any wisdom she could bestow upon them.
Organ donation saved the life of Sandy’s youngest grandson in 2008, and at that time, she registered to be an organ donor. Sandy’s family is proud to share that she continues her legacy by becoming the first tissue donor in the area over the age of 75. Her donation will provide tissues to recipients in critical need. The family kindly requests that in lieu of flowers, donations are made to the Midwest Transplant Network (1900 West 47th Place, Suite 400, Westwood, KS 66205 / (913-262-1668) / https://www.mwtn.org/).
The family of Sandy wishes to extend our sincere appreciation to the compassionate nursing staff at KU Medical Center, Midwest Transplant Network, and the many friends and family who have reached out with condolences.
A celebration of her life will be held on June 20, 2020 in Liberty, MO.
