Michael Ray “Mike” Stucky

Michael Ray, “Mike”, Stucky, age 78, of Olathe passed away Saturday, July 27th, 2020 after a battle with Alzheimer’s and a recent COVID-19 diagnosis.  He was born March 19th, 1942 in Goessel, Kansas the son of Mose and Hilda E. (Kleiwer) Stucky. 

 

Mike graduated from Anthony (KS) High School in 1960 and received his BA (1964) and MA (1966) from Wichita State University. During his time at Wichita State Mike was a member of Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, the football team and a graduate assistant for the football program. On January 25th, 1964 he married Sharner Lynn Asche. 

 

Mike began his professional career as a history teacher and coach at West High School in Wichita, KS, coaching football was one of his greatest passions.  He earned his private pilot’s license and transitioned to selling single engine aircraft for Cessna in Wichita. In the early 70’s Mike began working for Doonan Truck and Equipment selling Peterbilt trucks and became General Manager.  He continued his career managing Peterbilt dealerships in Tennessee and Arkansas. Mike returned to Kansas and became the President of SG Diesel in McPherson.  He continued his career in sales and management with Collins Bus in Salina, KS and Diamond Coach in Oswego, KS.  He returned to the semi-truck business and was the General Manager for Peterbilt Dealerships in Louisiana and Florida and a Kenworth Dealership in Nebraska before his retirement.

 

During his life Mike loved playing, coaching, watching football and supporting his favorite teams, Wichita State, Kansas State and the Green Bay Packers. He held countless leadership positions in the numerous Missouri Synod Lutheran Churches where he was a member, including president of the congregation, Elder, confirmation instructor, bible study leader and chairman of numerous building campaigns.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Douglas.  Surviving in addition to his wife, Sharner (Asche) Stucky, are his daughter, Kimberly Lynn Chambers and her husband, Chris of Overland Park, KS; his son Douglas Martin Stucky, and his wife Michele, of Hinton, IA; five grandchildren, Wyatt Stucky, Morgan Stucky, Cameron Chambers, Ashlyn Howard and Taylor Howard; one brother, Patrick Stucky of New York City; many nieces and nephews.

 

A celebration of life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 10th at Christ Lutheran Church, 11720 Nieman Rd., Overland Park, KS 66210.  Those who wish to remember Mike in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Christ Lutheran Church Building Fund. Arrangements by Kansas Cremation Society and Christ Lutheran Church.

Student at West High grad of 1967 ,Parkville ,Missouri

Coach and Mr. Stucky was one of my favorite teachers. I actually got an A in history class. (Changed my life.) He was truly a professional and a friend to all students and great coach. I also went to WSU and KSU. He will be remembered by my many.

Sharner We are heartbroken to hear that Mike passed away. He has been so special to us as are you and we remember sweet times at West and years after. We named #2 son Deren MICHAEL because of Mike. Sorry to heart about Mike's passing. Sharner, hope you are doing well. Covid is real. Mike was a good guy and I enjoyed the times we were together
