Robert “Bob” P. McFadden, age 84, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully on July 19th, 2020. Robert was born in Dubuque, Iowa, July 13th, 1936, to Henry and Agnes (Ronayne) McFadden. He attended Loras Academy in Dubuque, Iowa, graduating in 1954. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and was stationed in California, North Carolina, and Panama. He was honorably discharged in 1957 with the rank of Lance Corporal. He returned to Dubuque where he attended Loras College, majoring in political science. After college, Robert started his career in finance with the Household Finance Corporation, moving to Kansas City, MO, St. Joseph, MO, Marshalltown, IA, then to Winona, MN. While in Winona, he met and married Janet (Steinmetz) McFadden of Cresco, IA. The couple moved back to Kansas City in 1965, settling in Overland Park, KS. The couple spent their married life in the Kanas City area where Robert retired from Commerce Bank in 2004.
Robert loved to spend time with family, watch KU basketball games, and was an avid reader of history. Robert and Janet enjoyed travelling with friends and site-seeing across the country, with some of their favorite destinations being Alaska and Hawaii. They also enjoyed cruising with The Panama Canal cruise being their favorite. Robert was very active in The Larry Oppenheimer Marine Corps League, volunteering at the Kansas Speedway and at Local BBQs, however, Toys for Tots held a special place in his heart.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Janet, his children: Tim (Courtney) McFadden of Prairie Village, KS, Shannon (Roger) Thimmesch of Overland Park; grandchildren: Nathan, Nicole and Nolan Thimmesch; Brody and Devon McFadden; and 120 nieces and nephews spanning three generations.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Martha and Ruth, brothers Vincent and John.
