J. Michael Nauman Jr.

8/11/1970 - 9/5/2020

J. Michael Nauman Jr. died September 5, 2020. He was a Kansas City native, born and raised in the south metro.  He attended Rockhurst High School and Kansas University.  Mike was a great athlete, an avid golfer, as well as a devoted fan of the Chiefs and Jayhawks.  A salesman at heart, he spent his career in the IT field most recently with Pure Storage Inc. (Mountain View, CA).

Doing what he loved, being active and with friends, he had an accident on his bicycle. His injuries led to his untimely passing.  Michaels passion for life and friendship was unparalleled.  “He never met a stranger,” and he always wanted to leave you better. Whether by his love for his son, his adoration for his parents, his devotion to his fiancée or his need to give you some trouble”, his interest in YOU was undeniable and heartfelt.  Seeing the best in us, we got to witness the best in him.

Michael passed before his parents Mike and Carol, his son Aidan Hamaker, his brother Tim and nephew Jupiter and niece Lumina, his fiancée Michele, and her children Camden and Delaney, and, last but not least, his dog Bear.  Michael continued to give his love for life by donating his organs.  Five people have received the gift of a better life. The world is truly better for his time in it!

A private family service is planned.  A celebration of life will be scheduled for a later date.  In lieu of flowers. please consider a donation to Midwest Transplant Network https://www.mwtn.org/get-involved/monetary-donations/

I met Mike through Janet when we played in a golf tournament together. Mike and I stayed in touch and did some business networking. I have met few people with the genuine and caring spirit that was extremely evident in Mike. I felt fortunate to know him. I can't imagine the heartache you are feeling for the loss of such a wonderful person. But, I know it would have been far worse to never have known Mike. He definitely added so much by being in this world. My condolences to Janet and you all.

Sending many prayers to Mike’s family!! I still cannot believe he’s left this earth. As I look back at pictures and remember the many times we had lunches together, happy hours, hanging out, dinners.... it’s still unimaginable to me that he’s no longer here. I met Mike at Sprint and we became good friends. He adored his son Aidan and talked about him frequently to me, as well as his love and strong family bond with his parents and Tim. We were both huge KU fans and alumni and I remember how crazy excited we were when KU won the NCAA basketball championship. Lots of memories! We had birthdays close together so we’d celebrate each other’s... mine Aug 3rd and his the 11th. I’m certain Mike is in full on angel mode now, watching over his family and friends.

Our hearts are broken for Mike’s family, Michele and selfishly ourselves over the loss of a great friend. Mike’s larger than life personality was a true gift. Everyone loved to be around him because he always made you feel important. His laugh was infectious and something I’ll terribly miss. There’s no replacing Mike as he was truly one of a kind. I know I’m a better person just because I was blessed enough to be his friend. Sending all the love and hugs I can to the entire family. You’ll never be forgotten, Mike. ALL RISE!

To Mike Sr, Carol, Aiden, Tim and Aunt Janet...my memories of Mike and your family are those that I will never forget. When we were bummed ..we used to joke.and say let's do chili night at your home. As it always made him peaceful seeing you guys. He talked me into a stationary bike like his during this covid stuff..and we would talk/laugh about memories while riding..a month or so ago he mentioned he hoped that he had a relationship with Aiden like he had with you guys.. My comment " that will be hard to beat Mike but you are on the right track".. He laughed, said awwww then told me to bike faster.. I am so very, very sorry. There are not words. Just wanted to thank you for raising such a great guy. He will not be forgotten. Ever. Hugs Kerre Markus

Sprint and common friends provided Mike and I an initial connection which grew stronger over time... based largely on a desire to enjoy (and participate in!) all of the 'good trouble' he was always stirring up. Mike's positive energy and fun-loving nature was contagious and led to many great times/experiences, plus an expanding circle of like-minded friends and acquaintances. Bottom line... Mike was 'good people' and one of the biggest hearted people I've known. He'll definitely be missed, but will live on in the hearts of those he touched, including me. My deepest condolences to Michelle and his family.

It's not often that I meet someone and think "that person is a genuinely good person and someone I could be friends with". Mike was that type of person though. I'm saddened that we've lost one of the good guys.

I was so sad to hear today of Mike's passing. I really liked Mike. I last last saw Mike on March 13th. Just he and I had lunch together, no one else showed up. We talked business for a bit, but mostly we had a great conversation about Jesus. I hope I see him again some day.

Mike and Carol As the holidays are upon us in this strange year, I was thinking of you both now. Although Michael’s was a relatively sudden passage compared to our Annie, their physical absence from our family’s is sorely felt. But I hope you are feeling Michaels presence around you and able to smile more at the memories-rather than always tear up. it sounds as though Michael was someone everyone would like to be pals with-a bff even. That;s a special person and makes the loss harder in one way—but better in another Because Michael made a difference .and made the World better. He would want you to remember the joyful times as our lives mysteriously must go on. Your friend, Larry
