Beverly Scham Singer

On October 13, 2020 Beverly Scham Singer passed away at the age of 80 in Kansas City.  Beverly was born August 18, 1940 to Philip Scham and Ruth Ragol Scham in Sterling, Illinois.  She was born and raised in Sterling, IL and graduated from Sterling High School in 1958. She attended the University of Wisconsin, the University of Southern California and received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Kansas City University in 1962. Beverly married Stan Singer December 27, 1961 shortly before graduating. Together they raised two daughters, Jill Singer Kohler and Amy Jo Singer. Upon graduation, she taught 2nd grade at Valley View Elementary School.

Beverly sold men’s clothing for 26 years. She was consistently ranked the number one sales associate at Mailliard’s in Prairie Village, Jacobsen’s in Leawood and Mark Shale on the Country Club Plaza. She was beloved by all of her longtime customers and co-workers.

Words are not enough to express Beverly’s kindness and generosity of spirit. Her sense of humor, intelligence, and heart brought joy to the lives of all who knew her.  She will be missed dearly, and while she may no longer be with us, the love she gave always will be.

Beverly found joy in all aspects of life. She loved nothing more than to spend time with her family in the sunshine amongst the trees. Her lifelong friendships, time spent with friends at the Jewish Community Center in the “friendship nook” and KU basketball were all great sources of joy for Beverly.

Beverly is predeceased by her parents Phil and Ruth Scham and her sister, Syliva Kaplan. She is survived by her husband Stan, her daughters: Jill of Manhattan Beach, CA and Amy of Austin, TX, her grandchildren: Lily and Charlie Kohler, her four nephews: Mark, Michael & Scott Schwartz and Joe Pessen, her sisters in-law and brother in-law:  Davida Singer Pessen, Gary Singer and Lynn Singer, as well as her two sons-in-law: John Kohler and Stan Williams.

The family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service and celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
