Bruce R. Scofield Sr., 91 of Olathe, Kansas passed away November 11, 2020 at home.
Mr. Scofield was born April 3, 1929 in Maple Hill, Kansas to Franklin and Olivia (Romig) Scofield. As a young boy, he moved with his family to Manhattan, Kansas where he spent his childhood. He was a heavy equipment mechanic at Fort Riley, then worked for the Corps of Engineers until he retired in 1966. He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps spending most of that time in Panama.
He was a resident of Visalia, California and Stokesdale, North Carolina before moving to Olathe, Kansas.
Bruce's passion was working on cars and he was “Mr. Fix It”. If something was broken, he was the one to call. The motto from his sons was, “If it's broken, call Dad”.
Bruce was an auto/big equipment mechanic and worked many years in car dealerships and a ready mix company. He retired for the second time in 1991.
He is preceded in death by his father Franklin Scofield, mother Olivia (Romig) Scofield; brothers Edwin, Burton, Earl, Franklin, daughter Vickie Scofield and grandson Jeremy Scofield.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years Kathy Scofield, brother Dwight Scofield; sons Bruce (Karla) Scofield, Wallace (Amy) Scofield and Wayne Scofield; daughters Jackie Scofield Dittman, Cindy Scofield Fink, Yvonne “Jo” Scofield, grandson Lincoln Scofield; granddaughters Jennifer Haag, Monica Fink, Allison Padgett and Tawny McAnally, great-grandchildren Ashley Scofield; Jordy, Kinsley and Bailey Padgett; Morgan and Dakota Layton.
A private family graveside service will be held at Kansas Veterans’ Cemetery at Fort Riley at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, www.alz.org or American Cancer Society www.cancer.org
