Ann (Cuthbertson) Hotchkiss

February 9, 1931 – February 15, 2021

 

Ann Hotchkiss, 90, passed away at St. Luke’s Hospital, Kansas City, MO after fighting cancer for several years. She was born in Wichita, KS to R. Doyle and Thelma Cuthbertson. At a young age the family moved to Omaha, NE. After Graduating from Central High School in Omaha, she attended Monticello College, Alton, IL for two years. She then enrolled in Kansas University, Lawrence, KS where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. Ann graduated from KU with a Bachelor of Arts in Education in the spring of 1950. While at KU she met James Hotchkiss of Lawrence. They were married August 1, 1953. After marriage Ann taught school in Lawrence for two years,

 

In 1955, she and Jim moved to Johnson County, KS. There she became at stay-at-home mom to raise her children. She lived in Fairway and Mission Hills, KS before moving to Bishop Spencer Place in Kansas City, MO the summer of 2018.

 

Ann loved her flower gardens and garden clubs. She enjoyed travelling with Jim in the states, Canada, the Caribbean, Great Brittan and countries in western Europe- she even rode a camel around the great pyramid in Egypt. But most of all, she cherished family.

 

She spent countless hours as a volunteer with many organizations including Rainbow Mental Health, The John Wornall House, St. Luke’s Hospital Auxiliary, Junior League of Wyandotte and Johnson Counties, Kappa Holiday House Tour and reading to children with Operation Break Through at Village Presbyterian Church. She was a longtime Jayhawk basketball fan.

 

She is survived by her husband Jim, two children Liz Middleton (Cliff) and John Hotchkiss, four grandchildren Ryan Middleton, Madi Witte (Austen), Charles Hotchkiss and Addie Hotchkiss and great granddaughter Scarlett Witte.
