I knew Beverly as a co-worker and friend back in my USDA days with Donnie Burks, Sandra Methany and Mary Hill. I want to say it was 1990ish. I've always thought she was a blast. I'm so sorry for your loss. Can't believe cancer took her at such a young age. My prayers are with you all.

Jim and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Bev was a wonderful person and she sure could light up a room. While I wasn't very close with her, she always took the time to get to know me and ask about my family. I could tell that she was just one of those blessed people that made you feel special when you were in her company. Bev and your family have been in our prayers for the last several months and we will continue to pray blessings upon you all. God bless you all.

Jim, I think I only had the pleasure of meeting you the one time outside NGC. I believe it was before Bev retired but after she had fallen from the horse. Bev welcomed me to NGC when I started in 2016 and she made sure I got my daily dose of sass from her. :) We were a couple cubicles apart and I may have been responsible for giving her candy bars all the time. I would buy the big box from Costco and she and our cubicle mates would have our afternoon snack. She ruled the rice world and I would hear her give her advice/opinions/directives to so many people who had so much respect for her. I have missed her since she retired and now that sense of loss is magnified a 1000 times, but I am sure it pales in comparison to yours, since you had the joy of her in your life all these years. I hope all goes well for you and your family in this tiring time.

I am so sorry for your loss Mr. Whalen and family. Ms. Whalen was a joy to work with and I always enjoyed our debates and interactions, where as Pat said above she was usually right. She was known around the world (literally) and relied upon as an expert in her field. I always admired her story working her way up through the field and becoming the renowned rice and pulse grading expert for all of USDA, and doing it all with grace and compassion for everyone. I also remember her working through treatments and wanting to make sure everything was in a good place prior to retiring, always putting others before herself. Such a great person and she will be missed dearly.
