James Leroy Hunter

James Leroy Hunter, age 99, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away May 30th, 2021 at his home.

 

Graveside services will be held 2:30PM, 15th June, 2021 at Leavenworth National Cemetery, 150 Muncie Rd., Leavenworth, Kansas.

 

James was born November 4th 1921 in Joplin, Missouri. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy and served in the Pacific Campaign in World War II. Following his career in the Navy, he was a civil servant in the Federal Aviation Administration. He was also a community servant and served as the Chaplain of Veterans of Foreign Wars Shawnee Memorial Post 10552, as an elder at Bethany Lutheran Church and as a volunteer for American Legion fund-raising activities.

 

He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John. He is survived by his wife Lena, daughters Lynn and Rhonda, son Gary and son-in laws Don and Ron.

 

He was a proud grandfather of 17, great grandfather of 22 and great great grandfather of 12

 

Donations to the Veterans of Foreign Wars can be made in lieu of flowers.

Dear Lynn, Rhonda, & Gary, Uncle Jim lived a long life! Amazing that he has so many grandkids, Great grands, and great-great grands! My mother told me that when he was younger (newly married) he was very evangelistic and obviously love the Lord. Such a good memory. It's a blessing to know that we will see him again.
