Tandy Morrow Allen

July 26, 1935 - June 12, 2021

Tandy Morrow Allen of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on June 12, 2021. He was 85.

Born in Cozad, Nebraska on July 26, 1935, Tandy was the third and youngest child of Ralph and Marjorie Allen. He was named after his great grandfather, Tandy Allen, of Iowa. Tandy graduated from Cozad High School in 1953 and continued to the University of Nebraska at Lincoln, where he would meet his future wife, Janet, by whom he is survived, and earn a degree in Civil Engineering. He paused his education to serve his country, stationed at Dachau, Germany, seeing much of Europe before coming back to Lincoln to marry Janet in 1959 and complete his degree.

Tandy enjoyed a career in engineering, which took him and Janet and their two children, Michael and Kathryn, to Colorado, Florida, Texas, and finally, their beloved Kansas City. He had a long career with The Pritchard Corporation, traveling to faraway places such as Algeria, Saudi Arabia, and Taiwan.

When not working, Tandy pursued his passions including hunting, fishing, biking, and hiking. He loved being in the field, seeing dogs at work while hunting in the uplands of Kansas. He had a life-long love of aviation, becoming a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association and building his own plane in the garage of the Allen family home on Tomahawk Drive.

He was competitive – loved watching and playing most sports. Tandy was a gregarious, outgoing person, enjoying weekly bridge games, dinner with friends, and the Salt and Pepper Club. He was an avid reader, instilling a passion for good storytelling in his children. Tandy was also a great supporter of the Kansas City Symphony League and a regular volunteer at The Village Presbyterian Church Food Pantry.

Tandy is survived by his loving wife, Janet (nee Roach), and their two children and their families: son Michael, wife Alison Jones, and grandson William Allen of Fairfield, Connecticut; and daughter Kathryn, husband Sorosh Ahmed, and granddaughter and grandson Alia and Sam Ahmed of Dallas, Texas; as well as cherished nieces, nephew and cousins. Tandy was predeceased by his sisters, Stephanie Nelson of Colorado and Nancy Smith of Nebraska.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 24th in the sanctuary of Village Presbyterian Church. Streaming services available. The Reverend Tom Are, Jr. will be officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Village Presbyterian Church Food Pantry.

To Tandy’s family, Tandy was an incredibly intelligent Project Manager at The Pritchard Corp. he ran a tight ship and knew a lot about the different aspects of his projects. I had the opportunity to work under him on several projects and learned a lot from him. It sounds like after retirement he really enjoyed life. I know he will be greatly missed, but Heaven gained a great Engineer to keep things running smoothly. May God keep you tightly wrapped in His loving arms, during these sad days. But know that you all will be reunited some day in a wonderful celebration. Blessings, Craig

I enjoyed being on projects with Tandy over the years. He ran a tight ship. We will miss him, as I am sure his family will too.

Dear Janet, It was so nice to see you in church this morning, but so very sad to hear that your beloved Tandy has passed away. We two couples had such a nice time together at the Symphony Party a few years ago. Both of our wonderful husbands are at rest now. Sending you sincere sympathy and God's loving comfort. Deana Petty
