Betty L. Johnson, 88, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family in Independence, MO on September 14, 2021. She was born on July 14, 1933 in Stoutland, MO the daughter of Lewis and Elizabeth (Evans) Franklin.

 

 

 

She had a long career working with the Federal Government at various agencies including the Marine Corps, Department of Education, and the Women’s Bureau U.S. Department of Labor. One of her career highlights was being invited to the White House in celebration of the 75th Anniversary of the Women’s Bureau, where she met the President and First Lady.

 

 

 

She was an avid reader and traveler. She enjoyed traveling to a variety of destinations throughout the United States and abroad.

 

 

 

She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth (Robert) Stroud, Jamie Bales, and son Dean Johnson; grandsons Travis, Ryan, Sean, and Garrett Murray; granddaughters Calli and Brianna Bales; great-grandchildren Bella, Joey, Aiden, and Alyssa; siblings Larry, Elaine, Diane, and John (Tresia) Franklin; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Bill Franklin and one sister, Mary Ann Parsons.

 

 

The family will receive friends and family from 3-4:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at Meyers Funeral Chapel, 1600 W Main Street, Blue Springs, MO. Memorial service will begin at 4:00 p.m. at the chapel. The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to Kindred Hospice. The family also wishes to extend their gratitude to the amazing nurses and staff at Kindred Hospice. A graveside service will be held at a later date
