Andrew N. White, age 84, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 7, 2021.

Andy was born August 31, 1937, in Kansas City, MO. He spent his younger years In Hatfield and Smithville, MO but spent most of his formative years in Versailles, MO, graduating from Versailles High School in 1956. He graduated from Wentworth Academy, where he played tenor saxophone in a dance band, and later graduated from Missouri Valley College, with a B.A. in Education. His graduate work was funded through multiple National Science Foundation Grants.

He taught junior high science for thirty-three years, a teacher beloved by his students and peers, and received several awards, including Teacher of the Year and Who’s Who in American Teachers. He loved fishing and hunting pheasant and quail, his hunting dogs, and music from the 1940’s and 1950’s. After college, he spent two weeks traveling and playing with the Tommy Dorsey Big Band, but he quickly realized living on the road was not for him. He was a dedicated husband and father, always looking for ways to support his family, whether it be painting houses in the summers, taking on the role of Assistant Scoutmaster, or driving the “dance class/music lesson taxi”. He would go out of his way to help a friend, a neighbor, a student, or even a stranger.

Andy is preceded in death by his parents, Andrew F. and Bonnelle White. He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Janice; children, Mike White (Stephanie) and Marcia Barber (Scott); grandchildren, Paul and Nicholas White, Liam and Miles Barber; sibling, LeeAnna Eggers; nephews, Dr. Shawn and Shane Zembles; nieces, Dr. Laura and Jillian Campbell, and a loving extended family.

A celebration of Andy’s life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at Rolling Hills Presbyterian Church (9300 Nall Ave, Overland Park, KS 66207).
