Alva Edgar Lawson, of Kansas City, Mo., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 at North Kansas City Hospital. He was 86.

Born Sept. 5, 1935 to Thomas William Lawson and Lellie Blanch (Guffey) Lawson in Exline, Iowa, Edgar grew up in Putnam County, Mo. where he graduated from Putnam County High School in 1953. He joined the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany as a jet engine  mechanic until 1957.

 Edgar married Loretta Kay Clark of Promise City, Iowa June 13, 1959 in Centerville, Iowa. She survives. The couple made their home in Centerville and raised four children there.

 Edgar worked for Peatmans Plumbing and later owned and operated his own business, Al Lawson Plumbing and Heating. He moved to Kansas City, Mo. in 1987 where he provided maintenance for several apartment complexes until his retirement.

Edgar spent many hours playing the guitar, singing the songs of Country stars such as Hank Williams and Johnny Cash as well as original music. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and was an avid Green Bay Packers, Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals fan.

 Edgar is survived by his wife; son Russ Lawson and his wife Lesli of Grimes, Iowa; son Neil Lawson and his wife Jeanette of Kansas City, Mo.; daughter Winona Whitaker of Clinton, Iowa; a sister, Bonnie Salisbury, of Kansas City, Mo.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

 He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant sister; a brother, Hollis Lawson; sisters Edith West, Edna Lewis, Dorothy Knowles, Louise Bailey and Roxie Eckles; his son, Aaron Lawson and a grandson, Asa Lawson.

 Condolences may be offered to the family Sunday, Jan. 30 from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the Kansas City North Community Center, 3930 NE Antioch Rd. in Kansas City.
