Shirley L. Mastio, Age: 79
Aug 02, 1942 - Jun 23, 2022

Shirley L. Mastio (1942 – 2022)

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirley Lois [Mergen] Mastio. She passed away on June 23, 2022 after complications of a lengthy illness. She is proceeded in death by her mother, father and younger sister.

Born to Joseph & Vera [Crouch] Mergen in Sedalia, MO on August 2, 1942, as the middle child to brother William Mergen (wife Minette) and younger sister Sandra [Mergen] Kowalski. She grew up in Kansas City, MO, but had extended relatives in Sedalia, Knob Noster and Warrensburg, MO. She was 79 years young at her passing. Shirley is survived by her husband, Michael J. Mastio Sr and their beloved dog Sophie; her three children: Ms. Michelle J. [Mastio] Lynn, daughters Brandi [Lynn] Highfill {with her daughters Emily and Catie} and Amanda Lynn; Dr. & Mrs. Michael & Christina Mastio Jr, children Bren Mastio, Michael Mastio III (Trey) and Keely Mastio and Ms. Shannan L. [Mastio] Habiger, sons Kurt Habiger II and Kory Habiger; along with her brother-in-law, Mr. Tommy Kowalski.

Shirley graduated East High School in Kansas City, MO in 1960 and then went on to marry Michael (Mike) on December 27, 1962 after only 21 days of courtship. They would have celebrated their Diamond Anniversary this year. An amazing 59+ year marriage that all started when Shirley and Mike met at Fred Astaire Dance Studio where Shirley was an instructor and Dad an eager student.

Shirley loved to travel…anywhere that didn’t involve an airplane or boat. She and Dad traveled the U.S. and Canada frequently, with two of her most memorable destinations being Vail, CO and Banff, Alberta, CAN. She was an avid reader and enjoyed sewing, painting and crafts…even taking to colored pencils with her kids and grandkids. She was gifted with her penmanship and artistic abilities. A natural organizer of all aspects of her life, Shirley was able to ultimately organize her husband after only 50+ years of trying.

The family will hold a Celebration of Life on July 9, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 12910 NW 58th, St., Kansas City, MO, 64152 to celebrate the life and love of Shirley - the Wife, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandmother and friend to so many. I pray for you all and your broken hearts. I wielded for Shirley at LMA for 3 years. Loved her. Learned to know my boss Shannan Habiger. She was good to me. Michelle Lynn became my friend by working for the same employer. Bless your family. Jan
