Lon Eric Andersen of Kansas City, MO, passed away peacefully on July 20th at the NorthCare Hospice House after a year-long battle with cancer. His family was with him when he passed.
Lon was born July 15, 1961, in Kansas City. MO. to Gary Nels and Carol Sue Marshall Andersen. His parents separated shortly after, and his father married Judy Belle Cooper.
Lon grew up in Gladstone. MO. and graduated from Oak Park High School in 1979. After graduation, Lon went to work for AT&T as a cell tower field technician. He spent the next 21 years traveling the upper Midwest as a tower jockey. He retired from AT&T in 2004 and returned to Kansas
City so he could help care for his parents, and spend time with his siblings, nieces and nephews. He went to work as a night stocker at Hy-Vee in 2011, where he remained until his death.
Lon never married. He was a private and sometimes intense man, who loved working on cars, playing guitar, being outside in nature, and learning new things. Most of all, Lon was devoted to his family, and loved spending time with his nieces and nephews.
Lon attended Antioch Bible Baptist Church before becoming a member of Barry Christian Church, where he enjoyed serving on their lawn maintenance crew.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Sue Marshall, his father, Gary “Andy” Andersen and his step-mother, Judy Andersen. He leaves behind his brothers, David Andersen (Becca) and, Shawn Andersen, and his sisters, Janelle Simoneau (Jerome) and Michelle Townsend (Marvin), plus his nieces and nephews – Alexander Andersen, Miles Andersen, Chloe Simoneau, Desire’e Issacs (Mark) and Jon Simoneau (Pam) and four great nieces – Elli, Abby, Willa and MaryJayne Simoneau.
There will be a Celebration of Lon’s life on Saturday, August 6th, 2022 at 11am at Barry Christian Church, 1500 NW Barry Rd, Kansas City, MO 64155.
