Samuel C. Jackson Jr.
Sep 12, 1948 - Jul 27, 2022

Samuel “Sam” Jackson age 73, of Estero, Florida, former longtime resident of the Kansas City area, passed away at his summer home in Raymore, Missouri on Wednesday, July 27, 2022 around 10pm after battling pulmonary fibrosis for several years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the American Red Cross (https://www.redcross.org/donate/donation.html/) or HealthWell Foundation (https://www.healthwellfoundation.org/donate/).  For additional information or to leave condolence, please visit www.kccremation.com.

Born Samuel Calvin Jackson, Jr. on September 12, 1948 in Mesa, Arizona he was the son of Samuel C. and Darleen M. (Knudsen) Jackson.  At the age of 6 weeks, Sam’s family moved to Kansas City, Missouri.  After graduating from North Kansas City High School in 1966, he attended Metropolitan Junior College where he majored in pre-engineering.  He served in the United States Navy from March 1968 and was honorably discharged on January 20th, 1971.

Sam returned to the Kansas City area where he worked briefly as a mail carrier.  He was hired onto the Grandview, Missouri Fire Department in October 1972 where he worked for 32 years rising to the position of Captain.

He married Patricia L. Nolta on August 11, 1973 in Kansas City, Missouri.  The couple made their home in Grandview later moving to Overland Park, Kansas in 1992.  A few years prior to Sam’s retirement in 2004, the couple took their first trip to Florida. They eventually became Florida residents making their home in the Riverwoods Plantation 55+ community.

Sam was a big believer in volunteer work.  He volunteered for several years with the American Red Cross and, later in Florida, with the Harry Chapin Food Bank.  He also volunteered time to the Riverwoods community serving on the Board of Directors and various RW committees.  Sam loved almost any kind of music.  He DJ’d many RW dances and also taught line dancing there.

Sam cherished being outdoors.  Some of his favorite past times included camping, boating, biking, tennis/pickle ball, and sky diving.  Flying was a passion of Sam’s and eventually he obtained his pilot’s license.  He and Pat enjoyed flying the skies in his two-seater Cessna 150.

Sam was a selfless man who habitually did kind things for others behind the scenes.  He was honest to a fault and had a great sense of humor and could be quite the clever, fun-loving prankster.  He worked hard his whole life; sometimes working three jobs.  Retirement didn’t slow him down as he found ways to stay active.  Everyone loved him, which made him perfectly suited for the many social activities he organized in his neighborhood.  He’ll be missed by so many as there will never be another one-of-a-kind Sam.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Pat; his sons, Samuel C Jackson III, (wife, Melanie) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Brett A. Jackson of Olathe, KS; granddaughters Layla and Ember; his sister Linda of Canton, GA and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Samuel C. Jackson and his mother, Darleen.

Dear friends ,Manchester ,Missouri

Dear Pat Sammy & Bret & families & friends. Sam was a dear friend to Leo & I. We didn’t live far from them at Lake of the Ozarks where we would continue to keep our fun times together visiting. We we’re friends before Riverwoods at Lake San Marino in Naples Fl. We had many many good times together which created such good memories. Leo talked to Sam the week before he passed and Sam would say he was OK. Never complaining. Although Leo & I knew he was suffering. That’s just the kind of man he was. He will be missed by us although we know he is not suffering now. Rest In Peace our dear friend. Love Judy & Leo Marino

Dear Pat and family, Tom and I were sad to hear of the news that Sam passed. Sam was one of the first people who reached out to us when we first moved to Riverwoods. As the Yacht Club Commodore, he invited Tom to join the club. This was our first introduction to RIverwoods and we knew we had found a home away from Massachusetts, thanks to Sam. Sam and I worked on various committees together and I always applauded his great decision making, hard work and honesty. Plus, my grandchildren always loved being in the bike parade. Making them feel part of RIverwoods too. Sam will be greatly missed by all. May his memories be a blessing to all that knew him.

Sincere condolences to Pat, Linda and your entire families. I am so sorry for your loss. I have wonderful memories of growing up with “Sammy”, as I knew him as a kid in Kansas City. We had a few good laughs the last time we spoke about a broken collar bone incident when we were horsing around at age 11! It was so good to reconnect with him last year. I will miss him, like I miss his parents. Such a lovely family!! God bless you all.

Saddened to learn of Sam’s passing. Working with Sam for 26 years was enlightening to say the least. None the less I will always remember his willingness to prank anyone and I chuckle now at some of the gags we pulled. Sending hugs to the Jackson family ·
